NTA BUT galaxy has better overall art direction and sound design, the level design is better and more varied, and the story has better presentation, and less padding. Hell 3D world and Odyssey are better as well. The one thing Sunshine brings to the table is fludd and its platforming mechanics are heavily under utilized especially it's upgrades while it's combat usage actively breaks gameflow.

Yes overal style they blow Sunshine out of the water. Sunshine's art direction is extremely one note with very little variation in how it portrays a tropical island. It's a dang shame that we really only get the same sort of seaside over and over again that while pretty is still monotonous. Then the few times it breaks the convention is with a lame amusement park and the wordt haunted house in the series.

I first played Sunshine in the switch compilation thing that came out awhile ago. I didn't hate it, but it's noticeably rushed, which is weird for a flagship Mario game. Guess PS2 had Nintendo against the ropes back then and were desperate for a win.

I played ever mario game in my teenage and adult years because I didn't own any Nintendo console until later in life. I can safely say Galaxy was great while Sunshine was monotonous. Sunshine still remains the only 3d Mario game I've not collected all stars for. It is that awful collecting the 100 coins and blue coins, don't get me started on that damn Pachinko machine.

Sunshine is certainly weird for a 3D Mario title because yeah it lacks the usual Nintendo polish. Pachinko and the lily levels are not really THAT bad though, the worst part about this game is collecting the blue coins, it really is awful. I don't blame you for not wanting to put it with this shit for 100%
