I think she was most likely the writers favorite given how she was pushed hard on the player. She does have a nice character arc though and I like that she genuinely seems to love Sheppard the most compared to the other girls. Tali would be a close second though. I like Ash a lot as well but the writers did her dirty over the trilogy.

It's a pity the trilogy as a whole didn't live up to this game. ME2 and ME3 certainly had their moments, but they didn't capture the adventure ME1 was.

In my opinion, Mass Effect should have been four games rather than a trilogy. An extra game could've helped a lot.

>>11915395
What's even more strange is that they brought in all these D list celeb characters like Freddy Prince to voice the most bland characters ever instead of using the established characters people loved in ME2. For better or worse ME2 really boosted the series' popularity so not giving ME2 fans any red meat was an odd decision.

Mordin got closure on the whole genophage arc, Thane at least got to go out like a badass (even if it WAS against that faggot Kai Leng), but the best Miranda got was a total recycling of her ME2 sub-plot with saving her sister. They REALLY had no idea what to do with her.

And Vega was decent enough for a sudden debut character from nowhere, but he was definitely no Wrex or even Grunt.

I just remember more time spent rolling up hills with the Mako than much else. The story really picked up to me towards the end, but ultimately the whole experience sort of reminds me of my favorite DOS game: Star Control 2. I do like it for having more role playing aspects than its more action heavy sequel (I have not played 3 yet), as there's no heat for guns so it still left aspects to the imagination like reloading a new whole slab for bits to be shaved off leaving the focus more on the role playing story. Its locales do leave a bit of wonder which adds to the magic, but I think the game still picked up after their experience in doing the KOTOR games.

Just like gen5 probably isn't retro for some 50+yo geezer who remembers getting atari 2600 as a kid. PC on the other hand, I think the limit should be dialed back to 2006 or even 2005, because with the current rules, we get far too much crossover with the 360 and PS3.

For a lot people retrogames aren't defined by some arbitrary sliding date, it's a distinct style of gaming characterized by technological limitations, the influence of arcades, restricted internet access, an infant industry where small teams produced the big titles of the day on limited budgets, a lack of standardization in hardware with different platforms having very distinct look and feel as a result. Games of the late 2000s are old but for the most part they play more similarly to contemporary titles than they do to the games of the 80s and 90s.

> for the most part they play more similarly to contemporary titles than they do to the games of the 80s and 90s
There's a lot more in common between, say, Dead Space 2 and OG Silent Hill, than between Silent Hill and atari 2600 games, yet both SH and those are retro.
The rest I can agree with, but this millenia's indie scene kind of fits the description, even excluding wannabe-retro games. One could simply say "retro is gaming industry before normies", but that's also really arbitrary.
