>game has 10/10 graphics, atmosphere, cutscenes, story, music, and voice acting
>all dragged down by the shittiest gameplay
Tragic. Everything about this game is awesome except the gameplay

Gameplay is good once you get the hang of it. If you go in all guns blazing like it's your average shitty 3D beat em up you're going to get your ass handed to you because of enemy i-frames and think "wtf this game is shit", but that's because you're playing it wrong. The game is all about dodging and countering, let the enemy attack, dodge, and then attack when you have a window. Fights can get a bit shitty when several enemies are overlaid or if there are too many enemies at once in a room admitedly.

Then it's all about managing your 3 meters, HP, VP and MP, as all 3 meters are interconnected.
What's also nice is the Resident Evil style multi path system with different outcomes, cutscenes, and even a hidden boss fight, depending on your actions and what route you take.

Well, you can give the PS2 Castlevania games a try

Yeah I get that, shitty is an exaggeration, the gameplay overall is pretty impressive for such an early 3d action game, but it definitely didn't age well and the camera doesn't really help. I wish the combat was kinda like Devil May Cry, game would be flawless

I like them but they don't scratch the same itch for me

Interesting. I'm always intrigued by these proto-DMC games on PS1.
