One of my favorite games back then
>4 players on 1 controller, great multiplayer
>randomly generated maps means you'll never get bored of them
>the artist created maps look great and there's like 40+ of them
>the missions or just playing against the CPU is fun too
I remember playing this a lot at my cousin's house, and despite him having a PS1 and a PC in the same room we prefered the PS1 version because it was much easier to pass the controller around than switching seats on PC

Had a burnt copy of this game and I always turned it off when the music got scary.

there was a brief period of time in high school where i played this game with friends and it was amazing. such a fun multiplayer game and yeah you only need 1 controller. only other one i ever played was worms world party online a bit and it just wasnt the same without a room full of friends.

I've just been playing the Armageddon Anniversary edition lately since it was on sale, good shit and great memories.

My favorite is still Worms United and I've always preferred the original games' handling and physics, but Armageddon is as good as it gets for 2nd generation Worms.

Worms is great for in-person multiplayer, it's one of those games that don't transfer well into the online era, you need to be in the same room and talk about bullshit and see each others reactions to sick shots / plays etc.

Lol one of the most clear and fond memories I have of online play from that era involves some rando having this big long-winded meltdown over the chat after fucking up his grand ninja rope-based maneuver and getting his last worm killed, somehow blaming everybody else and some sort of cheat tool-aided conspiracy.

The fact that local multiplayer is always more fun than online play is generally true for any game that supports both though.

>Worms

Concordat of Worms or Diet of Worms?

Yes. Tried the online many times with friends/family, it never lasts sadly. Worms 2 I remember the local multiplayer went on for weeks.

We still have a blast playing it now and then.

The soundtrack is great, as a kid I never registered how creepy it gets sometimes.

I played endless amounts of Worms 2 back in the day. Was one of my favorites in middle school.
I tried playing Armageddon last year and was too damn rusty to enjoy it, there is a small learning curve for sure.

Me and a friend would compete on the rope trials. We completely memorized the box placement amd got insanely good with shooting across the map, to the point where we had hour long runs at one point.

One of the best games, especially if ya got people to play with.

The boys over at >>>/vm/worms get together and play Armageddon now and then. They've got an infographic on how to set up the game and lots of other useful links and info. Looks like they started up a game about 3 hours ago, they might still be going.

There's some learning to it, but earlier this year I was playing daily matches against the computer, and I ended up being able to beat the final level of that deathmatch pretty often (usually by turtling and then trying to slowly whittle the fuckers down, sometimes managing before sudden death). Not always, sometimes I'd fumble, sometimes they'd outsmart me, but I ended up getting wise to the specific ways that they would reliably fuck me, like the CPU's uncanny ability to place perfect shots arcing the bazooka with the wind, or expertly bouncing and timing hand grenades.

I imagine I would need to refresh myself a bit by now, but I feel like I can call myself competent at the basic gameplay. Love the game lots, the cavalier cartoon violence is charming as hell, and at the same time it's an incredibly exciting and tense tactical experience. One of the very finest games to come out of Britain, and an immortal classic of computer gaming.

CPU in worms is like, not smart at all. Will always go for the lowest hanging fruit even if it fucks him up in the long term. Steals a crate with a game changing weapon then never uses it because doesn't know how to. Can't use ropes or any other movement tool. Sometimes, it may use a teleport but most likely will just skip a turn.

Sure it can do a decent grenade throw or bazooka shot but only in perfectly avoidable situations.

True.

I'm obviously not as elite. I find that being out in the open generally leaves you open to their sick aiming, thus I avoid being out in the open, but it's not always fun just turtling underground and picking them off through attrition.

We're talking about the level 5 CPU here, right? Because everything else is easy as dirt, hell, even in a normal fair matching they aren't very hard, but in the last deathmatch missions it's your two worms against multiple teams of level 5 CPUs, which means them taking multiple turns against you.

You might be misremembering. You get to play every other turn, no matter how many enemy teams there are.

The best strategy for late deathmatch maps is to position your worms right near / on top of enemy worms. They are coded to not attack you if you stand too close to their teammates. Then you try to pile them up and use your strongest weapons when they're nicely grouped together.

I must be misremembering, yeah.
Standing on top of them, huh? Guess I'd need to make sure it's not the guy who's turn is next.
