Why modern dΓ©veloper dislike experimenting with control scheme?

Because ultimately basing an entire game on that is kinda gimmicky I guess.

Good game though, but I remember being quite annoyed at the time with the extremely low drawing distance.

I love that game, 2 and 3 are great too, especially the latter, but the original is just the best. Man... I know it's not retro but I just can't NOT mention this: if we are talking about first party Sony games then 2010s and beyond is probably the biggest fucking fall from grace in the history of gaming

Lair - ps3 launch title build around gyro controls and pressure sensitive buttons
Astro's playroom - pack-in title for PS4 showcasing touch capabilities
Astrobot - pack-in title for the PS5 showcasing haptic controls, advanced rumble, and resistive triggers
Every playstation had such a title. And Astrobot was GOTY something Ape Escape never managed and it's FAAAAAAAR more creative than AE ever was.

Crape Escape is shit. I beat it for the first time this year. The most difficult enemy in this game is the camera. Spike is slow as shit, his gadgets are awkward. Awful controls terrible camera, shit game. Is this really the best playstation kiddies had?

whats gimmicky about it when its based on the core controller of the console? Nowadays they put shit no one cares about like an underutilized touch pad but they could still play with the core essentials of the controller

Its just like the ps3 controller gimmicks and then the ps5 controller gimmicks. Everyone stops caring after a few months. The best controller innovation imo was the ps2 controller with the pressure sensitive buttons that most games utilize well into the console life and actually serve a purpose

Yeah it's not like the dualshock became the standard controller with 2 joystick and R3/L3 buttons

God, this game fucking sucked. The camera is HORRIBLE, even worse than Mario 64 for the worst camera of all time out of the hundreds of 3D games I've beat. There are only like two levels that are even remotely fun or interesting, and vast majority of the game is just easter egg hunts in empty levels fighting the camera the entire time and using retarded gadgets with shit controls.

NTA and I agree that the dualshock was the most innovative one but I think R3/L3 came with Dualshock 2. I also could've sworn that Silent Hill 1 utilized pressure sensitive inputs for melee weapons but turns out I was wrong

Nope dualshock 1

You can crawl in ape escape with R3

>Spyro and Crash fags guzzling cope juice out of each others assholes while Ape Escape reams their mothers
Ape Escape is literally the best 3D platformer of the 5th generation and you have to be fucking brain dead to claim otherwise. The levels are more fun, the collectibles are intelligent as opposed to shiny nuggets of poo like every other game, items add actual depth, and of course the music is fire drum n bass because let’s just dominate the audio department as well fuck it why not

2 and 3 are much better games but those weird dreamy levels with the short draw distance combined with the tripped out dnb really made it special

aesthetics/'soul'-wise i guess i'd agree, it didn't have that weird dreamlike feel from the PSX's shitty draw distance and the levels also didn't really have a 'theme' like in 3 where they had the monkey tv premise
still a great game that i remember very fondly

because experimental controls fucking suck more often than not.
look at monster hunter, you used the analog stick to attack and only had a warm welcome, they ended up changing back to traditional controls by the 3rd instalment.

I can understand not liking the level layouts for some reason though because to each their own but all of that other shit is either not true or I don't even know, 'his gadgets are awkward' lmao.
But honestly maybe the camera really is shit because people always complain about the camera in literally like every game ever, retro or modern, and I never really had a problem with any of that shit so I'm not the one to judge

Nigger, you are flat out retarded. Please give me an example of what game you think has a terrible camera because Ape Escape had one of, if not the very worst camera among all the major 3d mascot platformers at the time.

As I've already said I usually don't have a problem with the camera in vidya because I'm quick to adapt so I can't really judge. I've realised that complaining about the camera is pretty much a gaming staple at this point. What are some 3D games with GOOD camera in your opinion then?

You can recenter the camera with L2 and the environnement are open

What is wrong with you?
