Looking at Tomb Raider running on 32X... do you think Resident Evil could be possible too without downgrading the characters and enemies models too much? RE doesn't really need good framerate.

Is it possible nowadays? Yeah probably but you'd need to reduce the quality of the backgrounds, the poly count of models, and there probably wouldn't be any dynamic lighting and other effects might be missing as well.

The main issue would be fitting the entire game on a cart.

Yeah it does.

ps1 original runs at just 30 fps

So a good framerate

Good framerate is 60. 30 is playable

Open Lara definitely makes it look like it could be possible, but yeah, it would have to be downgraded

AFAIK Genesis flashcarts are compatible with the 32X, but I don't know if the 32X itself is compatible with games of any size

I don't know how exactly the GBA compares to the 32X but there's an RE2 prototype for that

It's all about storage size, in all actuality the complexity of the PS1 RE games entirely boils down to what the enemies are doing and how many active models are on-screen, so the 32X could easily do it.. with the CD addon, at least.
Frankly the fact that the N64 could contain the game on 64MB is a good indicator of what exactly you're dealing with; on a raw 32X cart you're never gonna get even close to the original experience for visuals and sound at least.

Right, it would be a nice 32X-CD game.

RE1 doesn't use Saturn or PSX to their full potential so it would have ran okay on 32x. In fact it might have saved the add-on alongside a Duke 3D port.
