The NPCs in this game are called Clancers and they're strangely used as both friendly NPCs and enemies, you never know who's an Easy E and who's a Dr Dre

I got all gold gems and got an average A rank. Great ludo.

I rented this when I was like in 2nd grade or something and got filtered. Am I a casual?

Started replaying recently. No idea wtf they are talking about and the controls are filtering me. How did I do this as a kid.

Well, you have to get an A rank to get all the gold gems. But yeah, it's a great game. One of my favorite games of all time, and definitely my favorite Treasure game. Tons of soul and creativity.

I really like Marina as a character. Mostly just because I like the robot maid archetype; it's very evocative of that era.

You might have been at the time. But you were only in second grade, so..

No, you can get the gems with lower ranks except the bosses

In order to get the last gem you have to get an overall A rank, which lets you get the last gold gem from the ending(shake Teran). Unless you're saying you only have to get A ranks on the bosses to get that gem?

i may be misremembering but I did get all gems required to get the full ending, and then I got the average A rank to get the special secret ending (some gag with doc Theo). You can get an average A rank while still having a few Bs in some levels (and you can also get S rank, which I only did in 2 levels, that's some crazy TAS level shit required for S ranks)

Well yeah, you don't have to get an A rank in every level to get the last gem, you just need an overall A rank. I too only got S rank in a few levels because that shit's ridiculous, fuck that

I distinctly remember having to get an overall A rank in order to get the last gem from the ending, and I last played this game less than a year ago

Ah fair enough, then I meant that I initially got all but 1 golden gem, which still grants you the full ending, and then went for A rank and extra bonus ending, I forgot it gave you one extra gem.
It's been years, I should get to it again.

I got filtered by the athletic meet despite it being one of my favorite games as a kid. Then my N64's power brick failed and I never bought a new one. Then there were cooler retro consoles than N64.

I had to call the Power Line to find a couple of the more obscure gold gems since there were no guides at the time.
I still have the number memorized: 1 425 885 7529. It still connects but now says the service was discontinued. My parents yelled at me for the long distance charges.

People have to be a real stick in the mud to not like this game. At one point you ride a cat that rides a missile while you catch others missiles with your hands, enlarge them with some vigorous shaking, then throw them back at a wolf-man. There's no missing context or subtext in that.

>they're strangely used as both friendly NPCs and enemies
That was the result of the N64's limited texture cache and cartridge storage space, but it produced SOVL.

That model is actually surprising nice.
