>>11925006you don't. cats do what they want to do. at best you can teach them not to do something when you're in the room, by teaching them you're a crazy asshole who will yell at them for doing what they want to do. then they'll do it whenever you're not around and they'll trust you less and feel less safe around you.
they're not dogs, they're not wired to please humans, and you can't use the same conditioning. best bet is offer an alternative. if they want to scratch your couch, put up a scratching post in that spot so they scratch that instead. if they want to get up on the counter, put up some cat shelves or cat trees so they can get up off the ground that way instead.
cats are magnificent creatures but in their little minds anything they choose to do is correct and righteous simply because they chose to do it. trying to get in the way of that just makes them dislike you.
