I have posted about this before. In Stage 1 of Alisia Dragoon, with crt royale 320px composite enabled, (or anything that uses ntsc composite 2 phase) there is a rift in the sky which contains etheral white bars that make it look like there is another layer of parallax scrolling. There is no way you can convince me this wasn't an intentionally designed effect by the graphic artists. It looks stunning in motion.

Any good composite/color bleed shaders out there?
VHS Pro works but doesn't have much customization for that.

It's also cool how the shader gives this a 3D effect, makes it look kinda like pre-rendered graphics.

>The warehouse walls seem to shift from light to dark purple every eight pixels. This effect is not seen in the same way when viewing the game through an S-Video or RGB connection. I am aware of no emulator that can replicate this effect.
That's literally just the sprite pattern for the walls though...?

Isn't that just the effect that happens when you put certain colors next to each other and they appear to be moving?
Anonymous No.11926014 >>11926550
>>11925991
doesn't do that on real hardware, you're clearly getting some kind of artifacting from the checkerboard pattern interacting with the shader

pretty sure that's just supposed to be smoke and not a "rift" too

Over RF or composite you're either going to get the stripes as they are or blended into a dark purple depending on the quality of the signal. If he's getting some weird effect from them in motion that probably has more to do with his capture card than anything.

oh interesting. I'm going to try this on my CRT but im currently using RGB so it probably wont do it. Im going to hazard a guess that composite or RF might though - several things that have rainbow effects (sonic waterfall etc) in composite dont really work in RGB on my tv.

lmao what are you even talking about? the point of alternating black and purple is to get dark purple when your tv smears the colors together, not to "approximate parallax", that doesn't even fucking make sense

sega master system only had 16 colors so devs constantly used shit like that to fake additional colors, oldest fucking trick in the book

Even in motion on a real capture device it doesn't look like there is any more movement in the backgrounds. I think this is just a quirk of the shader itself.

most effects like this break with higher quality signals than composite, things like dither-based transparency and blending quirks like the shimmering cliffs in final fantasy

It's just stock ntsc-adaptive on top of guest-advanced with custom settings

https://files.catbox.moe/d698fg.slangp this is optimized for 1080p screens, if you have another resolution, adjust the CRT mask zoom setting (or pick a different CRT mask)

An approximation of pc crt monitor with guest advanced (reshade). It's really hard to get it right but I'm okay with this, especially at 1080p. Very slight scanlines which are barely visible plus other stuff like slight blurriness and glow. It needs to be very subtle.

I'm partial to Koko's AIO TV aperture grille as it looks very close to my actual crt I still own so for the times when i'm not going OG hardware it is my shader of choice. It does help i'm using an oled screen as well.

Koko's shaders made me a believer, using them at 4k oled hdr look insanely good. I did tweak several things though, like remove curvature, remove the "light spot" and made custom bezels that interact with the ambient light. Usually don't like bezels but they are needed if you want your oled to wear out evenly.

The inner frame has reflexions that comes from the game and the outer frame is affected by the ambient light making the whole 16:9 screen not static. It's a better solution than having a 4:3 game with no overlay at all since pixel wear is a thing and you'd end up with lighter big square image on the center of your tv in the long run. But, if you don't like it, you can turn it off of course.

I'm still on crtglow_gauss.slangp and it rocks, just a shame how my tablet's not too powerful, so sometimes it doesn't work well, mainly on PS1 and consoles more demanding than it, up to Genesis, SNES and GBA it's fine. I'm trying to find any similar light alternatives I like, but not much luck so far. Anyways, I'll keep experimenting, maybe I'll need to upgrade my tablet soon really.
