more games like terranigma?
more games with superb movement like terranigma? i need a game where just moving from point a to point b is fun, and terranigma does that but i dont know of any other games like it.

Metal Warriors is the thirst thing that comes to mind when you bring up "movement", God that's a good game.

That's a vague but actually interesting topic, though predictably it will turn very subjective.

For a similar kind of game, Alundra feels a little weightless at times compared to Terranigma but I always found the control smooth and satisfying.

Soul Blazer. Same devs, similar "kill monsters to rebuild the world" themes.

Soul Blazer has the most basic bitch movement system imaginable. Read the entire post you're replying to next time.

SotN put a lot of effort into making simply moving around satisfying, and overall every single action you can perform has presence and weight, yet at the same time feels elegant and otherworldly, like the gay-ass protagonist himself.

Even back in the day I found the character controls in Sunshine kind of a step down from SM64's, which felt so unlikely sophisticated for such an early 3D platforming game. Sunshine "helps" you and ultimately second-guesses too much imo; the devs meant well, but it took away from the feeling of nearly perfect 1:1 control the original 3D Mario gave you.

True, when it comes to movement SotN is just unmatched

unsurprisingly a lot of games like this are platformers
DK94, even though it's more of a puzzler, to me this controls far better than any of the actual Mario platformers
Yoshi's Island, the sense of weight and responsiveness is tuned to perfection
Metroid: Zero Mission and Fusion control like a dream

I always thought moving the characters around in Earthbound felt pretty snappy and satisfying.

nothing beats super metroid in terms of movement, maybe also quake. not many devs understand that the key component is acceleration and not just top end speed.

Even though I barely remember the game, Alundra popped into my mind for some reason.

Super Metroid only becomes really good when you learn some of the basic tech like ledge grabbing, wall jumping and mid-air morph though which most people won't.

same as quake. having a rather high skill ceiling in terms of movement is something positive. you get rewarded for being better and putting time into the game.

Quake plays perfectly smoothly without knowing about it's advanced movement. Super Metroid is kinda clunky without using any of it's more obscure mechanics which is why casuals tend to prefer Fusion or Zero Mission, a shame really.

Super Mario World. I think it's the main reason it has so many rom hacks and why kaizo is a thing, people wanna play around with that movement and physics but the actual game never challenges you all that much on that aspect.

I can't imagine playing Terranigma and that being my key takeaway from it.

So why do you imagine one key takeaway is all that can or should be appreciated about any given subject?

Rayman is super smooth and responsive and plain fun to control when you unlock the advanced abilities. The problem is that the level layouts past the first World are so specific and deadly that you can't really "enjoy" the perfect control that much.
