The way Nintendo treated any third-party publisher really
Namco tried leaving them when the PC Engine came out but in the end Nintendo was just too popular so they still ended up making several SNES games
They rightly left Nintendo for Sony when the PS1 came out though

Did you know Hiroshi Yamauchi wasn't actually a human being? He was a vessel that enclosed 7 yakuza oni spirits from 7 different regions in Japan. These oni monopolized the gambling in Japan with the hanafuda Nintendo cards and put a spell so that no other company could produce cards, truly evil.

Yamauchi, often referred to as "大魔王 ティラノ天堂" (Great Evil King Tyranotendo), tyranized the video games market with his monopolic practises, it is said that the Master System or the PC Engine didn't actually ever exist, and that they were invented time after so hide the fact that the Famicom was actually the one and only console existing in Japan.

Replace Konami with Acclaim. Konami made some cool N64 games but PSX was clearly their priority during that generation.

Acclaim may have produced a lot of slop but they made some honest-to-God kino with N64 as the lead platform like Turok and Shadowman.

Nintendo and Rare are the obvious 1 and 2. Nintendo still published the most games, and Rare has some of the biggest overall sellers. Other contenders for number three spot are HAL, Hudson Soft, Acclaim, THQ (really), MIDWAY, and perhaps Factor 5. Konami still did release some norte worthy games on the N64 like the Goemon titles, ISS games, two Castleviania games... but it can;t be denied that they were even bigger on the Playstation with Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, Dance Dance Revolution, the Soccer games, Castlevania SOTN, Pop 'N Music, Suikoden... Konami was generally on fire for that whole generation on all platforms, really. But the Playstation was their main focal point.

Who would have worked on metroid 64?

Also I'm not sure if this was a dumb move or not for Nintendo to continue supporting super famicom/snes during most of n64's life. At least make n64 backwards compatible and that would fix a lot of the issues regarding library and lack of 2D titles.

no they aren't faggot. Cartridges don't have to worry about read/write speeds. You have to install PS5 games from disc today, but with a switch cartridge you just have to insert and then you can play. (so long it's not some shitty third-party that's a keycard instead.)

I think on a technically level the Factor 5 game would have been much more impressive, and would have had killer audio with the Factor 5 sound engine (with Dolby surround and Chris Huelsbeck music and sound effects ). Hal would have had a more conservative approach to Metroid, and it probably would have been 2.5D platformers like the Kirby games.

>In that case I think I’d have preferred factor 5, I want a full 3d one even w some classic fps drops. But both would’ve been cool.

I think factor 5 would have made a completely 3rd person 3D Metroid game that could have played a bit like the Turrican games, given that they have worked on the Turrican series. It would have been a better game than Shadows of the Empire, given how much Factor 5 has learned from N64 development since that game. Given that Nintendo probably would have given Factor 5 a large budget to work with, Factor 5 probably would have even contracted Angel Studios for some game design assistance, and may layouts. Nintendo of America would have assigned Treehouse for QA. The MusyX audio driver would have been put to use. The game would have been like 64MB, and probably had voice acting in spots. The 4MB RAM PAK could have been put to use. But with HAL games... HAL did make Super Smash Bros. for the N64 which does feature Samus. Their game probably would have been a complete 2.5D that stuck close to the classic Metroid formula. Probably would have been on a 32MB cartridge.

> Crusin' USA (launch window game)
> NBA Hangtime (MIDWAY was fucked out of the NBA Jam name from Acclaim, but Hangtime is a sequel to NBA JAM)
> Doom 64
> War Gods (one of the first 3D fighters for the N64... a good game? ehhh..)
> Mace The Dark Ages (another 3D fighter)
> San Francisco Rush: Extreme Racing (sold really well)
> Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero (reviewed poorly, but sold well)
> Quake (decent enough port)
> Rampage World Tour
> Bio FREAKS (hmmm)
> Off Road Challenge (Port of the arcade game)
> Mortal Kombat 4
> NFL Blitz (quite popular on the N64)
> Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA
> California Speed (another game in the Crusin' series)
> Body Harvest (published the DMA designs game)
> Rampage 2: Universal Tour
> World Driver Championship
> Gauntlet Legends
> Hydro Thunder
> Cruis'n Exotica

That's not everything that Midway published for the N64. I didn't list the annual follow-ups to the Blitz series and the Ready 2 Rumble games (That were better on the Dreamcast), and the other random stuff they developed and/ or published. Midway was one of the biggest third party contributors to the N64 library. Acclaim and THQ were also in this tier group as well.
