Why is it that most discussion of like 2d games is usually about skill, techniques, game comparisons etc while most discussion of 3d games seems to be like aesthetics, nostalgia, "sovl" etc?

Sounds like selective listening / reading to me to fit some silly "us vs them" delusional narrative you have in your mind because you actively look for things to get upset about.

>why is it that [incoherent schizophrenic gibberish]
Can't answer a question like that

Because on this board they are entirly domminated by a clique of boring nintedo speedrunners who esist to shit on everyone else fun and like to jerk each other off. There is nothing 'skillful' in 2D speedruning. Its a field domiated by mental defectives and loosers.

Challenge being the entire point of video games did start to die in the mid 90's when 3D started to become a norm, and there are two main reasons for that. First, the advant of the CD format which meant more storage space for games to become more movie-like. Secondly, 3D controls. It has been largely forgotten now because everyone has gotten used to it and it's the norm, but it took a while for players to get used to 3D controls, just moving around was often the challenge in itself (Tomb Raider), and 3D controls weren't normalized yet so everyone did it differently. You can't have challenge when nobody has mastered controls yet.

>all gameplay is speedrunning
you're an idiot, and the point of games is to be competitive, if its not competitive on some level, it's not a game, it's role playing or an interactive movie. You're probably a passive person in life who challenges nothing and lives for petty escapism

>if I console war about consoles I can fit in right
>what about console warring over the same series, then I'll fit in right?
>what about console warring over games in a series, surely then I'll fit in
>ooo what about console warring over generations, now i fit in big time right
>what about 2d vs 3d, if I take a stance on that I can be a real /vr/ bro then
