That's an unfair comparison, because unlike Superman 64, ET is not an overly difficult or broken game if you read the manual. It's more complicated than Pacman, and it's admittedly a little clunky, but you can get a knack for it and actually have a little fun beating multiple times in a row. That said, it's obviously not my favorite, and I think the teleportation system could use some refining.

Say what you will of ET, you won't find yourself accidentally glitching into an infinite black void every 10 minutes, and having to restart because of that.

This game along with most "bad" or "weird" retro games were very well known before any nerd videos, I mean shit Superman 64 was better known from Cr1tikal than the nerd. The only thing he really had an impact on was how people see CV2 and Mr Hyde since CV2 while not loved was far from hated and literally no one played Dr. Jekyll. I've never given a real fuck about any version of Fallout. My younger sister loves the first-person 3D games on Xbox Arcade, but I know the first two are top-down.

Oddly she shares Sam Hyde's opinion that New Vegas is the best. If I actually played it I might share that opinion, but 4 or 5, whichever one comes after it, seems like it has a bigger more interesting world to explore, and New Vegas just had a slide show for an ending, and a relatively small map to explore.

It doesn't matter though. None of them look very good, and as a Goldeneye/Perfect Dark fan, I can't get over the fact that every single human enemy takes like 10-50 headshots to kill. The slow-mo anatomy scan that occasionally happens doesn't make sense to me either.

The graphics are good. It's no Mario, and it's no Banjo, but if you put First-party developers and Rareware aside, it's still pretty good for N64 standards.
The level designs are interesting and this is the closest thing to a GTA/Spiderman style open world on an N64 game. Body Harvest doesn't count, since all the "cities" are boring barren fields with a few flat rectangular buildings laid on top.
You know why the draw distance is so fucking bad in Superman?
Because it's made by French people, who value beauty over pragmatics. All the buildings in Superman's Metropolis have a shitload of polygons to make them more round or more detailed. Spiderman games for the PSX didn't do this shit, but the buildings in Spiderman for the PSX look like shit by comparison.
The controls and combat could admittedly use work, but overall for a rushed release, the game is remarkable for what it is.

The city is bigger than any city in a Zelda game. It's so huge it would take hours to walk from one end to the other.

More beautiful buildings and architecture than Body Harvest. The cities have so many thousands of polygons they actually run up the max polygon limit of the Nintendo 64, which is why the draw distance is not as high as other players may like.

Depends on the incarnation, but generally no. X-ray machines are functionally electric radioactive sonar that passes through tissue but stops at bones.

But the thing is, ALL electromagnetic waves (and even sound waves) do this to some extent. It's just too subtle for us to pick up with equipment unless we're using something as extreme as X-rays. Superman's vision can pick up elecromagnetic fields with enough precision that his eyes functionally work like an X-ray machine using only the ambient electromagnetic waves in the environment. It's called "X-ray vision" after "X-ray machine", because it uses a similar method, not because it shoots literal X-rays.

My favorites are Antartic Adventure, Burger time, Choplifter!, Oil's Well and the Pitfall games. The Smurfs: Rescue in Gargamel's Castle and the BC games are surprisingly good. I think that the Intellivison was cool for its time, but I prefer the more simple arcade style games of the Colecovision and 2600. The big strength of the Intellevision in my opinion was more complex sports games and those were done better on later systems like the c64.
