I had the same problem. I like Kirby and think this plays well but I don't think the Metroidvania format really fits it.

use the not very detailed but helpful enough map
also there's plenty of different places you can go, it's mostly nonlinear since you don't unlock any abilities
Anonymous No.11932835
The map is kinda stupid but you'll figure it out eventually. The problem with this game is that it doesn't reward exploration enough. Too many chests, even ones that are hard to reach, only give you health. Ironically they'll eventually integrate collectables that would have made sense in this format, like extra moves for your powers and key items, into Squeak Squad, an average, linear Kirby game.

It is the easiest genre to do wrong

And that's the best part of it - non-linear Kirby game where the entire game is open to you right from the start (without being gated by ability dripfeed) makes a great game. It's like Reverse Castle in SotN - do whatever you want in whichever order and explore to your heart's content.

Why are modern people so adverse to trial and error? When you play enough you will know where to go and where things leads to even though yes the worst part about Amazing Mirror is it's less stellar map

GCO is alright because you can just blast through the game without hunting for treasure if you want. Plus it has that fun RPG boss fight.

I've completed the game only 3 times ever since it came out. Nightmare in Dreamland I've replayed countless times. The metroidvania formula doesn't work for Kirby, it wasn't designed for that. Still an okay game.

This game should have been evidence that Sakurai is not good with Metroid-like map design. One of the worse things about Brawl, among it's good things, is the terrible final stretch.
That and who ever designed Mega Man ZX's map.

>I hated both this
Yes
>and Great Cave Offensive.
Utter blasphemy

The problem with the GBA Kirby games is that the screen/FOV is too small, and the jumping physics are a lot more stiff. The fundamental premise of Kirbyvania's is perfect.

NTA, but Amazing Mirror is a great game and part of why is because of how quick Kirby is, along with the fast speed of animations and good SFX/effects for attacks + good hitboxes. Great Cave Offensive is mostly filler and Super Star controls poorly the moment you let go of one of the hundred-move abilities and try to play as basic Kirby, or just use a weaker ability like Cutter/Sword. The inhale and running are bad in particular, and the Super Star-type healthbar is worse than the segmented one from Adventure that was used in the GBA games.

I love how good it is at pretending four people can just go off split up and have their own adventures because they know the odds four people will actually get together and try it to find the lag is way too high is next to zero.

You go through the first mirror Kirby can enter. Your exploratory instincts will guide you or you will develop them.
