I just finished Siren 2, both games are just the scariest shit ever. I challenge you to post a scarier game. Siren and /vr/ nightmare fuel thread I guess
Anonymous No.11932235 >>11932256 >>11932289
there is no scarier game from that era, and the only close ones are very obscure visual-novel type shit for ps1 or ps2. no 3d action horror matches Siren, Silent Hill doesn't come close

It's a shame the gameplay is so cucked with enemies killing you in less than 3 hits over and over and over and over

Fatal Frame is maybe the closest

I'm a Siren fan and I feel like I'm in the minority when I say this but I still think that SH1 and 3 are still a bit scarier than the Siren games. I can't really explain why but SH1 especially just makes me want to nope the fuck out and turn off the game during some parts

SH 1,3 > Siren 1,2 > Fatal Frame 3 and Kuon in terms of scares for me

For me, RE1 zombie headturn is the scariest moment, RE2 alligator for personal reasons, SH alleyway. Overall, headturn was the actual scariest moment, SH alley was the creepiest, not just pure terror alligator got me the most in real life when not playing the game. Nemesis and Mr.X for the feeling of Doom like shit I'm gonna die (in the game). RE4 chainsaw guy killing you for shock in that you can actually just get your head cut off. Siren was the atmosphere since you are stuck in the level and there are no real safe areas like other games have. Fatal Frame for the feeling that something is going to pop up and get you, like walking around your house in the dark and feeling like something is behind you.

Meant to add, nowadays we are kind of conditioned to it and it is hard for games to recreate those thrills, although any good game played in the dark can still get you into it.

RE1 was my first horror game and I was scared shitless by the headturn too. The thing that scared me the most in RE2 was gif related for some reason. Then after that I played SH1 and literally everything in that game felt scary, like the entire world felt hostile and I didn't feel safe for a second, and yeah Siren was the same and the insane level of difficulty added to that feeling even more. Fatal Frame games are not actually that tense because of the gameplay, once you get good at the game its arcadey nature lets you absolutely destroy the ghosts. I played the Fatal Frame games as an adult and like halfway through 1 I got used to the combat and everything and breezed through the rest of the series, then also S ranked 1 on Nightmare on my second playthrough

Are there any hacks for playing the PAL translation onto a NTSC version? I was looking into Siren 2 myself and 50hz plus input lag is such a turn off.

Sadly no and forcing the game to run in 60hz just makes it crash during the FMV cutscenes. A 2006 game not supporting 60hz is just ridiculous, I'm a PALfag and by 2006 most people had a TV that supported NTSC and PAL60

Play JP version for max immersion. The horror of not understanding the language can contribute to the spoopiness.

>no pc versions

Per pixel lighting would be so kino in these.

Not enough games used real life or alike faces on animals/other places in horror games which I think is one of the most unerving shit ever.
If you watched this movie, this is the scariest shit ever.
Sadly due to current gen graphics this wont happen ever again so its unlikely any games will come close to the siren games.
Will be funny to contrast the new Silent Hill to these games. Would be surprised if that even scratches 10% of what Siren does.

>port the games and release them on GOG or Steam
>advertise the hell out of it, 'we present to you... from the creators of Silent Hill...'
>grab the popcorn and watch modern gamers get filter'd
This is why I want those ported

I hated 1, didn't get far. It is so hard that by the time you are good at a route it is not scary anymore because you are treating it like a speedrun rather than a horror game, it showed me a game can be too hard for its own good.

Heard 2 is much different, is that true?

>is that true?
It's way easier. More checkpoints and if you do a side objective/pick up an archive it stays forever even if you quit the mission. The characters are also not made of glass this time around and I even think they went overboard with this a little bit, iirc you can endure like 6 rifle shots on normal. All that but the game still somehow feels more challenging than the vast majority of horror games, I guess the first one was just that fucking hard

The first one was made to not be beatable without collaborating with other players, that's why its so obtuse, you were supposed to go online and talk to people. At least that was the directors idea, except the game was a commercial failure and since the game wasn't marketed as such it just left people confused, and since not many copies were sold the ones who did buy it were even more confused by it, this was early 2000s so not as many people online either. Really stupid decision to be honest, just assuming you will get a community to beat your game.

It's different scares but Kuon for me. Not a lot of other games sell me on it being nighttime and that anything could come out of the darkness. Plus the state of everything, it's clear there was a massacre and it actually felt like anything could come out and get you.

>JUST GO TO A RANDOM BUSH, BRO.
nah it sucks. both suck. i cba watching the routines till one of the shibito shows what youre supposed to do. awful design. the non linear is another major non starter you can't connect to anyone.

True but 1 so bullshit not everyone can finish it even with a guide
>>11933152
Yeah, even 2 requires some serious dedication to get through. It really is easier but it's still far from being an easy game and the gameplay still sucks ass, I won't defend it
>>11933110
The underground sections in Kuon are perhaps among the most oppressing things ever put in a video game
