Air Traffic Chaos
There's only five levels. Why haven't you beaten it yet, anon? Must be a skill issue.

Is thar for DS?

Yes, it's the DS game.

There are quite a few games in the series. Ive only played the DS one and the Switch one.
Switch version is more or less a snooze fest.
But the DS games is an intense timing coordination game, where you'll fuck up a lot, but you'll always know you could have done better.

A very rare gem.

I imagine the western cover art drove off a lot of people.

You mean this?
It sort of conveys the panic you're gonna have.

Just try it. Once you get to the third stage (medium difficulty) you get what it's about.
QKN No.11937750 >>11938026
Ah, here's the first stage on Expert. The kind of juggling he starts doing a few minutes in is what the game is about. There will be quite a few ground collisions and mid-air collisions before that.

One reason why the Switch version is quite bad is because you can tell a plane to stop in their tracks while taxi-ing. So if you fuck up you have a way to easily fix it. Nothing like that here :)

Love this series I've been playing it for years. Highly recommend their best game: I am an Air Traffic Controller 3 for PC. There used to be a english forum out there with links to all the DLC and mostly translated. I wish they would release it all officially in english and their earlier PC games but I doubt it.

They also made games for PSP and 3DS. Once you get the hang of these games you can kinda play them in japanese because you're giving the same land/taxi/take off commands in the same order. It can be tricky though because some scenarios throw curve balls at you and one mistake is game over.

Look in the middle of the very bottom.
If 19 years old isn't retro then you need to have your head examined.

What I like about the DS title is that you're always slightly uneasy and having a mild panic attack. With the Switch game I was just falling asleep due to the amount of time between commands. In ONE scenario on switch I had to make the slower plane take a longer route before landing or else the faster one would run up its ass. in ONE. DS game has that shit happening all the time. How does the ATC3 compare on the scale panic attack <---> snooze fest?

> hey also made games for PSP and 3DS.
A friend of mine tried the 3DS one. Snooze game. Ever seen the PSP one? Any good?

Yeah, might give that a shot.

To be fair to OP, there are GBA and PS1 entries in the franchise. Probably some of the pc ones also meet the requirements.

ya I've never played the switch game.
>How does the ATC3 compare on the scale panic attack <---> snooze fest?
Oh it's very hard I've never completed all the scenarios.
>Ever seen the PSP one? Any good?
PSP games are also good and difficult. They're based on the ATC2 engine.

All these console games are based on their main PC games. One of the rare jap PC devs.

Apparently TechnoBrain just released an airport taxiing puzzle game called Pocket & Zooom. I can just hear the Japanese onomatopoetic wording in the title. Hopefully that one keeps a higher tempo.
Installing the demo on steam now...

Did you look at the video I linked?
>>11937750
What would you say about the tempo there? Look between 9:00 and 10:00 to see what I mean.

I didn't see your video but I know the DS game well it's how I discovered this series too. Trust me ATC3 and the psp games are hard as balls, they dump a shit ton of planes on you and each airport has its own quirks and problems to solve. Difficulty is the main draw of the series besides planes being cool. I don't know about the later games like that switch game your talking about maybe they casualized it which is a shame.

The base game for switch has like half a scenario which is interesting, but the remainder are just slooooow.
There are DLC sets for Switch which has some of the difficult stuff. But still, they're pretty much all about memorization and not much of in-game panic handling.

Add me on steam, bro: pastah_rhymez

Yeah I know what you mean. ATC3 in particular you can have 20+ planes under your control at once and then one of the planes breaks down on your main runway which quickly becomes a logistical nightmare. The snowy airports have you constantly juggling snow build up and sending out the bulldozer to clear snow which shuts down the runway for a long time. Some airports have dedicated runways for military planes and you have to manage their military drills while handling the commercial flights on the other side of the airport. Sometimes you even give commands to little busses going around the airport and crossing runways which adds to the chaos.

There was a lot of dlc for that game and a lot of fun scenarios. To be honest though it can still be slow. It's clear technobrain loves aviation and loves watching planes do their thing so if you aren't into it too it can be boring. The scenarios usually build the tension and stress over time instead of dumping it on you right at the start. Memorization is also a factor, it's a shame the games don't have a truly randomized mode that is one area the new games should solve I don't know if they did.

Microprose did it better.

I've actually been toying with the idea of making a random mode modificaton to the DS game. It's a helluva project since I more or less need to disassemble the entire program on the ROM. I've started to a small extent but damn, this is a big project.

The hard part would be getting all the parameters right. Like, how often does the wind change? How intense is the snowfall on New Chitose? Should that change throughout the scenario? For the stage which divides between special / domestic / international, how many planes are allowed to target one of the specific targets? Would it be okay to have four planes at once targeting two gates?
Should the waiting-on-runway stress punishment be reduced somewhat? I mean damn, that fucker can't stand still long enough for you to send of a clear-to-taxi message.

ya /v/ is known for obscure japanese plane game discussions. This series is retro, first game is from 1998 and the DS game is based off that one.
