What a great game. Very well put together, great graphics, good atmosphere. Its amazing how this game and windwaker really show off how good the gamecubes graphics were. Especially on a crt. Just looks so good. Especially for a 19 year old video game. About 3 hours in so far. First time playing.

I never finished it, was playing on dolphin way back when I was a broke fool and didn't have a powerful enough computer to emulate. Got about 3/8th of the way through. May give it a go, got a Wii and a cube and a Wiiu and a PC that'll make your mom grow a penis.

>5 hr tutorial
>bug hunting
>wolf sections
>Terrible pacing
>Ganondorf was behind it all!
>Just as easy as Wind Waker
>Dull ugly version of OoT
>Terrible Anime story
>Useless items
>Dungeons are glorified set pieces
>Overworld is somehow worse than the N64 games.
TP was already outdated in 06. Oblivion, Okami, Shadow of the Colossus all did certain things better than TP. It felt like a late N64 title and really put a light on how stale Zelda felt for the 1st time in it's history. This game was the beginning of the end for traditional Zelda unfortunately.

I got this game on Wii in 2006. Played it a few times, dropped it every time. Bought it again on GCN a few years later, played it and dropped it. I emulated it many years after that, and again, played it and dropped it. I've gotten as far as Hyrule Castle, but I just drop it every time. I keep coming back year after year because there are things I legitimately love about it, and I have a strange nostalgia for it despite not ever beating it, but I just can't force myself to finish it. Every time I would get over one of its agonizing flaws, I'd power through only to be met with an ever bigger flaw.

This is the greatest example of wasted potential in any game I've ever played. At its absolute best, it's the superlative Zelda experience. Roaming around Hyrule Field killing goblins and collecting golden bugs while the sun sets and that somber music plays is a cathartic experience. The problem is, for every good thing about it, there's something bad. It's visually beautiful at times, and hideously ugly at times. It's got great combat mechanics, but it's too easy to make the mechanics meaningful. It has cool tools and treasures, but they're almost unanimously underused or poorly implemented. It has lots of cutscenes and character exposition, but the story is a fucking mess and most of the characters are lame or detestable. It has a great overworld, but almost nothing worth finding in it. It has some fun dungeons, but they're mechanically shallow and you can't even play them out of order to mix things up on repeat playthroughs. On and on, ad nausem.

Despite the untold hours I've sunk into this game, I can't bother to finish it. Because despite all of the things I love about it, the product is ultimately rotten. One bad apple spoils the bunch, and this shit has a lot of bad apples. Meanwhile, I have no problem clearing OoT on a yearly basis. The game just isn't as good as what it tries to replicate, and its biggest flaws are severe.

I liked it and finished it but the world felt kind of empty which made exploring kind of boring so I didn't bother trying to 100% it.

TP could never replicate the magic of playing OoT and MM while being abused by my mother's boyfriend. Aonuma is a hack.

The dungeons are all pretty creative and high effort. There isn't another game that achieves that level of immersion with this sort of hi-fi dark fantasy style.
It's absolutely more mechanically rich than Wind Waker.

True. They had a good concept but they didn't put in the work to make a masterpiece . TP is a high end product. The pacing is pretty bad I'll give you that

Yeah, TP does drag at times but overall it's still great. Wind Waker was clearly rushed and honestly if you don't like the feel of it you won't like the game in general because there's just nothing else to like aside from maybe 2 dungeons. WW is also the most open ended /vr/ Zelda after 1 but the exploration just doesn't feel rewarding

i bet windwaker a year or so ago. while i really liked the graphics and the beginning. the boat thing was cool but eventually it just became i gotta get here quick. then towards the end of the game i actually had to force my self to beat the game kinda. i did like the overall experience. idk how often id go back to it. especially cause i dont have the upgraded one with the wii u. idr if there was a fast travel. there might have been. but whatever. they shoulda made the ocean smaller.

I liked the experience as well because there are no bad Zelda games after all as much as this board hates to admit it but yeah it's definitely a one and done experience because of how tedious it is

Never played it but I know that you don't have to play the song everytime you want to change the wind's direction

I honestly can't play 3D Zelda anymore after I realized that 99% of the rewards for side content is a single heart peice no matter what bullshit they make you do, and health is kinda pointless

that's why majora's mask is so good. it's also another reason why three heart runs are patrician-tier.

most zelda games just have horrible incentives to explore.
probably one of the main reasons Soulslikes took off if because exploration can yield a reward that permanently changes your playstyle or build.

I haven't played the GC CE version with MM, but I used to have the OoT + Master Quest version. The biggest issue with the GC ports of those games are the controls. The GC stick just can't do the sharp turns that N64 Link is capable of, nor can it do the fine aiming that makes free aim so enjoyable; it just feels fat and hyper-sensitive. You will adapt to it and it doesn't stop you from finishing the game, you're just gonna have a tougher time completing tasks that should otherwise be fun to do and that may sour your experience.

Im kinda curious if they optimized it more for the ocarina of time only disc. I bet it is in someway but ive never heard anyone having anything bad to say about CE besides MM running slightly slower than it did on n64. Its not the same controller so it'll take some adjustments. The port looks amazing though. Played another 3 hours into twilight princess and overall im having fun. Did get annoying with the monkeys following you and making monkey noises every couple seconds on repeat.

>most zelda games just have horrible incentives to explore.
The exploration itself is the reward, anon. I hate to break it to you, but if you aren't in it to find cool nooks and crannies, interesting things and secret places, then you really aren't into exploration in the first place. That said, there are plenty of "reward that permanently changes your playstyle" hidden in the 3D Zeldas. In fact, I would say those games are chock full of it. Did you just ruin all of it with a guide or something? Perhaps you just aren't creative enough to make use of them. All of the great fairy rewards are basically optional rewards that "permanently change your playstyle". You have the bombchus, the ice arrow in OoT and the masks in MM. Then you get into the things like the warp locations in OoT (and even one in MM), the fairy fountains and the greater rupee and item placements hidden in chests in grottos and such that can really change what you're capable of on your next playthrough. Really, if you didn't know what or where everything was in OoT, MM, WW, etc., then they would be prime examples of games that incentivize exploration.

Shit game. Bad Econ (as usual zelda). Almost nothing worth fighting. Mostly awful design, released with grimdark in the age of no-contrast displays was also a fucking stupid decision.
Utilzing the wolf jumping was stupid, wolf fighting options were okay for multi-attack.
Wii controls with bow were cool though, and the ball and chain was fucking amazing.
They fucked up the stealth section though a bit but the idea was decent in not forcing it.
Spintop is fucking garbage if only because you couldn't make yourself a fucking spin fighter.
As the other guy mentioned, over-world did suck as well.

It's not good - but it wouldn't take too much to fix it's problems and make it a better game. But this ain't it.

It looks like they went backwards w the design. Like I should expect this in OoT because it was way more limited but instead this seems like a basic bitch concept and the one from OoT is way more unique and interesting. Same could be said for almost all the gc first party titles, they were like the n64 games just not as good. Except for smash bros. Melee is a vast improvement even tho I still love the OG.
