You mean one britbong on a magazine before CV64 even started proper development, gushing over CGI footage. He was retarded but CV64 ultimately ended up being the better game and SotN derived too much from the previous 2D games.

More annoying is how 3D Mario was accepted over 2D Mario despite being entirely different and selling worse.

Dude, I knew today it feels ridiculous. But, c'mon, people back in the day would laugh at you for buying this. Imagine it's 1995. We're moving to 3D, and you're buying space shooters like it's early SNES era? These games rightfully were considered bargain bin core.
You fucks also forget that: games cost money. $50 in 1995 would be $100 or more today. So… Imagine being a kid, you took time to save $100, and instead of a new fancy 3D game, you buy… this? For your $800 ($399 in 1995) machine?

Don't seek the logic, it wasn't even the actual game (which didn't start development in proper yet) but some CGI footage. It's like if you bragged about the PlayStation being better against the N64 if you showed some FMV shots from FFVII vs Yoshi's Story.

Speaking of Yoshi's Story, someone should check what the magazine had to say about it and other 2D N64 games.

I can see that at the time. Yeah, SotN has obviously aged better, but at the time it just looked like a souped-up SNES game. The N64 titles were trying to push the technology and bring the gameplay into 3D which was probably considered more visually striking.

What surprises me the most is that he thinks R-Type 3 is a fair game you can keep coming back to, but the extremely casual MMX is somehow this hardcore game with an unbalanced design where you're overwhelmed by the many respawning enemies while dealing with way too many buttons. I think I beat it when I was 10. Also, saying you can't run away from monsters in a game where you can dash jump over many, to me means he must have been playing without dashing all that much because he had no dexterity to do so, which would indeed make the game a hard annoying slog.

Also, you don't understand that the jump to 3D was mind-blowing. You were moving from DKC2 and Yoshi's Island in 1995 to Crash, TR and RE in 1996.
