I wanna get into strategy games. Can anyone recommend some good strategy games for a beginner?

For turn-based strategy, Warlords II is pretty simple and easy to learn while still being fun and addictive.

Starcraft and Age of Empires are very complicated and require a great deal of mechanical skill.

Are you American? Do you loathe turn based strategy thinking its for nerds who play chess? Then Full Spectrum Autism Warrior

Why its perfect for beginner
>you control at most 4 squads
>close to action, units go pew-pew
>murrica, fuck yea!
>if you play it console, you can play it on controller

The tutorial is very long though for zoom zooms but once you get through fun begins.

I remember hearing so much praise for this when it came out, but it feels like a lot of people don't even remember it now.

You don't need a lot of skill in singleplayer mode. These were very popular games for ordinary people, primarily, and they function perfectly well for ordinary people. OP doesn't have to play against other humans right away, or ever.

If you want a game that's especially accessible and friendly, play something like Advance Wars or Shining Force. If you want one that's richer and deeper but still basically pretty friendly (although you'll have to put some effort in to learn it - it's friendly, but it's still complex) then play any main-line Civilization game. The first four games are /vr/-"retro" and they're all great. (Newer ones would probably be fine too but I haven't played them and can't vouch for them.) These kinds of games tend to be extremely difficult when played against skilled humans but they ALWAYS have very, very, VERY bad AI that needs to use unfair advantages against you in order to have any chance of winning. In a story-based game about a few heroes overturning an evil empire, the story justifies an unfair outnumbering of your soldiers; in a game like Civilization that's built to be more or less symmetrical and fair, the AI will usually just cheat outright. You can beat these extremely crappy AIs, even as a beginner, as long as you don't turn the difficulty settings up too high. Give it a shot.

I love Scrabble and play it all the time, it might be one of my favorite games of all time. But like most strategy games, chess, checkers, Axis & Allies it sucks playing against the computer, especially in older games.

Pretentious anons will recommend some obscure, backward game. Just play Ages of Empires. It will give you the best casual experience and a glimpse of what competitive RTS is like. Are they two totally different games? Yes, PVE and PVP are very different. But it's the best gateway. I speak for everyone in the third world. IDK about Americans, they'll probably recommend FFT or Disgaea or something like that.

I'm not sure what's more beginner friendly, Civ 3 or 4, but you definitely you should check out some Civilization game.

Bullshit. Six(ish) levels into the OG Terran campaign, at New Gettysburg, you need a deep understanding of the game and all of the resources at your disposal; you CAN complete the mission with weak strategy and apm, but it will take a friggin hour and a half.

I don't play strategy and I finished the game just fine. If someone needs time, they can save and continue later.

It actually is. People were using it 25 years ago and still do. Just because muh official scrabble dictionary is loath to add a slang word for masturbation doesn't mean it's not an actual word. There are loads of onomatopoeias in the language, and fap is more than worthy to join them
