PS2 Divegrass
So what are the best futebol games on the PS2?
My friends used to love PES 5 and 6, but I have also seen people saying 2008 and 2011 are great if not better.
Not to mention there's also the Winning Eleven International games and the few International Superstar Soccer games that got released before PES killed it.
Also do the european versions of 5 and 6 have any differences from the US releases?

PES 5 is the best sim
6 had more arcadey shooting and every PES released after it was the exact same game with updated rosters
FIFA Street 1&2 are just pure arcade fun

PES 5 is best ever period, I mean, if you invest learning ALL the stuff it has, it's the most enjoyable footy experience you can possibly get from the digital medium

ofc there's some RNG to everything you do, but your technical skill MATTERS (body position, movement, facing the goal, shooting power, choosing the right player and his best foot, etc)

PES 6 is okay, but the shooting is so damn botched; also, PES 5 "strict referee" is because no one bothers to defend PROPERLY. You can't just push x + square and expect the AI to solve it for you, you have to work and SUFFER to get the ball or maybe go for a tactical foul

as you see from this thread PES 5 is a poser-core slop
6 although overrated is much better game, however the best PS2 football game is PES 2014 because it's basically an upgraded PES 6
Fifa 2014 is also good

I'll die in the name of PES 6.

Back in the days me and my classmates always agreed that PES had the better physics but worse licencing than FIFA. It was always a trade-off. But overall we liked PES much more because back than we were stunned by the crazier physics and greater graphics than Fifa for a while. Miss those times.

Yes. Winning Eleven is the Japanese title (the games were made by Konami, so it's also the original title), Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) is the international title.

I don't care about futebol but I know people are still playing PES6 to this day thanks to Bomba Patch, it must have done something right.

BASED.

It always had a hot sexy bitch in skimpy clothes on the cover so we could jerk off while waiting for the PS2 to load, good times.

No, Winning Eleven was their initial Football series, then they made PES exclusively for the Playstation. At some point during the PS2 era they merged them.

I have picrel, I'm not much of a soccer buff but I'd be interested in where it ranks to the Euros/South Americans ITT. I have a bunch of 3rd-5th gen Konami sports games I always felt were very good.

Okay I thought winning eleven was the title they used for some of the games. They just try to be confusing as someone who didn’t realize they had no license it did get annoying playing as Merseyside Red for Manchester United.

Yeah I looked it up and winning eleven and pro evolution are the same, I just don't know how winning eleven is compared to other soccer/football games

Winning Eleven and International Superstar Soccer are completely different franchises, but Knoami always sucked with naming and localizing their titles, so we have a mess in our hands. KCEO made ISS, which had a different name in Japan which I don't recall right now, it was a hit on the SNES and Genesis, and they went on to make N64 titles, which follow the same core ideas, and later on they went to the PS2 where the IP died. KCET made Winning Eleven, localized as Goal Storm, then Winning Eleven '97 which was localized as both Goal Storm '97 and ISS Pro, then Winning Eleven 3 was ISS Pro '98, and Winning Eleven 4 was ISS Pro Evolution, in the PS2 era finally Winning Eleven 5 was localized as Pro Evolution Soccer.

The last time names were different was with Winning Eleven 10, which was PES 6 in Europe and Winning Eleven: PES 2007 in the US, an attempt to combine both names that didn't stick. After that it was named after the year and the rest is history.
