Why doesn't MS get enough credit for DirectX?

Every GPU innovation ever only exist because Microsoft kickstarted it through DirectX. Remember when GPU went from the separated Vertex and Pixel shaders paradigm to the unified shaders paradigm around 2006 ? That was because Microsoft rewrote their graphical API stack for WIndows Vista and the Xbox 360. NVidia and ATI only created GPUs that would work with the new API.

why doesn't Sega get credit for creating nVidia? without landing this contract, nVidia would've been forgotten and we'd all be using 3dfx cards right now

More like Direct-ACK.
id Software arguably had more of an impact to how 3D games are rendered and they did it all with software rendering and OpenGL and are still doing it with Vulkan despite now being owned by Microsoft.

What is this, a pic for ants?
id software stopped having widespread influence after Quake 2 and stopped spearheading graphics entirely after Doom 3. Today their relevance is in soifacing at other games and crying out "but 30 years ago I did this and that kind of led to it"
Epic Games, since the release of Unreal, has been a more influential driving force than id.

>the first nvidia card was a crossover with sega to push the saturn onto pc owners
sometimes I think we're living in a simulation

games looked better before 2006, so if that's what you want to cite as your "breakthrough year" then holy fuck what a disaster.

DirectX is garbage, and modern GPUs are also garbage. If DirectX has a claim to anything, its helping GPUs evolve in a terrible direction.
