I think this was probably the last era of high quality capcom games, re4 was great, re5 was meh I didn’t like it but they redeemed themselves with dead rising to the point where to me I still got the zombie game I wanted, maybe even a better one then I would have gotten with modern resident evil, then they surprised us with lost planet which was a kino game. after this I think they went downhill fast with resident evil 6 LP 2 and (still ok) and LP3. rest is history and now they don’t make anything new and just seem to be making remasters resident evil has just gotten worse or weirder and even further removed from the original games the longer it’s gone on.
Lost planet 1 had a really cool multiplayer, it’s easy to forget but the game had fun stuff like frisbee grenades you could toss and patiently watch them travel across the map to distant targets, and they would stick to things or tumble onto the floor if it hit a wall. Or the inflatable dummy grenades. Gummy grenades. Just fun stuff. You had the various mechs you could use in MP. You could take the mech weapons off to use against other players or against the mechs themselves. The grappling hook let you do lots of funny or retarded or cool shit. The maps were fun to explore. lots of skins looked unique or interesting. the multiplayer had a lot of charm to it also with the emotes and stuff that serves no purpose but were at your disposal to fuck around with. basically what I’m saying is that the multiplayer for lost planet 1 had a lot of soul. Unfortunately I think it was just too weird of a multiplayer to catch on and have mainstream appeal because of some of the monster hunter esque gameplay choices like you having massive stunned animations or slow recovery getting back up and players could stun lock you. capcom back then seemed like the masters of fun and giving you choices but not ever properly refining things either to make it a smooth experience.
