What are the best licensed games from the 1980s and 1990s made by Western developers?

I specifically excluded 2000s stuff since around that era licensed games got a general "upgrade" from entertainingly bad to mediocre and boring. Be my guest though.

I remember a guy that worked at SSI during the gold box era said in an interview somewhere that they hated doing these because it was some sleazy thing to do where the boss's wife (some nepotistic thing like that) was connected to selling the license rights to SSI as a kickback and the games made no money because no one gave a shit about Buck Rogers in the the '90s and the license had no actual value.

Yeah, but the gameplay is so damn good though! However, it could've had shorter shmup segments. A few of them felt like they went on forever.

Off the top of my head, other than Aladdin...
Shadowrun (all versions are excellent)
Hook (Mega CD has the movie soundtrack, but I prefer the SNES tunes)
Pirates of Dark Water (Genesis one is actually the unaired ending of the show)
Willow (arcade game is ludo)
Sweet Home (better than the movie)
Turtles in Time/Hyperstone Heist (both awesome)
The Simpsons arcade game
Moonwalker (hee hee, shamone)
...and many more, I'm sure. The /vr/ era was great for licensed ludo.

Capcom Aladdin is superior to Virgin Aladdin, and wasn't made by a bible thumper who was later involved in starting a streamed emulation service where each laggy frame of game is larger than the whole ROM

This is very debateable, it's a matter of taste and of one's main priorities really.

>...and wasn't made by a bible thumper...
What does this have to do with anything? We're talking about Aladdin.

>...who was later involved in starting a streamed emulation service where each laggy frame of game is larger than the whole ROM
This sounds awful indeed... but again, what does it have to do with the quality of the video game, even if the creator sucks or whatever, this doesn't mean Capcom's is a better video game automatically, anon.

It's a bit repetitive but a nice challenge in an obnoxious kind of way, and the visuals are great. On a technical level it's absolutely one of the best licensed Western games ever made even if AS a game it's a bit shallow.

Last Crusade is also nice but Fate of Atlantis is one of the best point-and-click games ever made; the replayability factor is specially rare.

Technically though I'm not sure it counts as a licensed game since it was made by a Lucasfilm subcompany and as such they weren't really "licensing" the Indiana Jones IP.

On PC you had a ton of licensed games that were actually fun, or at least interesting.

If you're expecting platformers or beat em ups, you'll be disappointed though. Most of them were adventure games, text games, or single-screen arcadey games.
