First time playing. the enhanced edition looks really good in 1440p. I played SH1 and got the worst ending, anything I need to know (spoiler free) to not get one of the shit endings?
I don't know, just play the game because the ending system in SH2 is completely retarded. Good game but the devs were clearly too far up their own asses trying to make a really deep game and the ending system is just another proof of that

You get the canonical ending by playing on low health, inspecting the knife and Mary's letter regularly, and neglecting Maria. The game is shit, however.

Silent Hill 2 doesn't really have a "good" or "bad" ending. It has 3 endings that it will select based on your habits while playing. It's best that you don't know what habits it's tracking so you can get assigned an ending organically.

I got the "In Water" ending my first time because I used to have a habit of hoarding my healing items, so I was in red health for the almost the entire game.

I've been trying to force myself not to hoard resources lately cuz I'd always finish horror games with like 200 bullets left. I think I've overcorrected, though, cuz I recently finished Silent Hill 3 for the first time and I ran out of ammo during the final boss. Had to finish it with the katana.
