the SFEX games all felt like shit to plau
mk4 was too homogenized, the entire cast all had the exact same combo strings
compared to their 2D counterparts, these games couldn't hold a candle, jack. they just didn't hav

it was jank and kinda boring. arika didnt make any good fighting games until Fighting EX Layer

EX Plus Alpha had a ton of charm. Also a ton of shotos.
EX 2 is a very good fighting game, although the presentation is a bit rough.
EX 3 sucks.

I wonder why Blair only appears in the first game.

I got ex3 from a bargain bin when I was a kid, maybe 2006? I got bored of it really fast but never sold it because I assumed it was worthless. Eventually I got back into it and now I really enjoy it.
Recently got into playing Ex plus Alpha. I love the aesthetic. Garish colors and big blocky character models. Plays solid. Ex series is dated but definitely overhated.

Exactly my thoughts though I can't articulate what is wrong with EX3. I wish it was just 1 on 1 fights with better graphics

Damn this was such a dissapointment at the time but it has really grown on me. I’ve got a couple of CiB copies from yardsales wish I could find the psx ones for under a hundred each lol.

It's a very early PS2 game, probably one of the release games. It still came out in a CD instead of DVD. The graphics have this weird glossy look, and the effects are really bad and cause slowdown for some reason.

Also the way to unlock stuff in Original Mode is really obtuse. Did you know you can fight Evil Ryu as a mid-boss, or that Shin Vega (gold and black) is different from Vega II (white and red)?

Or that some characters have Meteor Tag Combos?

Japanese copies are cheap. Got my playstation is region unlocked a while back and it was a great decision. Racing games, fighting games, R-Type Delta.. JPN copies were way less expensive and more aesthetic frankly.
I even picked up JPN Command and Conquer. Cutscenes are dubbed in japanese. It’s great.

So what’s the easiest way to set an American ps2 to region free? Or I guess I could unlock one of my PlayStations but makes more sense just to do it to the ps2. I’m guessing freemcboot or whatever that memory card thing is called?

Bison II is a different version of Bison with more powerful attacks and different moves.
True Bison has infinite super gauge, is in permanent Excel Mode, can cancel every attack into itself (can do the same supercombo twice in a row) and his Meteor Combo is different.

The issue the anon above probably had is that the naming convention makes no sense. Bison II was a version of Bison in SFEX2 that was white and red:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBZcjsoZmW8

While Bison II in SFEX3 is just a stronger version of the normal final boss, and True Bison is SFEX2's Bison II. I think the confusion is mainly because of the color scheme, although the naming convention makes no sense.

About the paths in Original Mode, the issue I found is that the mid-bosses only appear if you're using specific characters, and not just anyone like in EX and EX2. To fight Kairi, you can only use Nanase or Hokuto (his sisters). To fight Evil Ryu you must use Ken, Sakura, Sagat or Bison.

No kidding that’s confusing. I think I follow you. I need to play through it more. I booted it up recently but I haven’t been in the mood to try and learn a new fighter right now, well new as in I’m not competent w any character yet outside maybe Ken

I played EX2+ competitively at my arcade in the old days. One of the reasons EX is so based is due to the controls being so forgiving compared to any other Street Fighter game. You can do moves and combos so easily compared to something like SF Zero 3 with its frame perfect joystick perfect jank and shit music. God that game sucked.
