I like this game more than lufia 2 even though I objectively consider this game a charming 5.5/10 vs lufia 2's 8.8/10. Such a charming game this is.

Yep, good ol' phase based combat. Superior to regular turn-based in my opinion because you can't just spam A and need to know your damage and the enemy to really optimize your turns.

I’ve never had a problem with this and I was contused when I started seeing people complain about it. I didn’t even notice a difference between the two systems for a long time because I played the same way of trying to be efficient with my targeting, regardless.

>lmao, just mash "A" bro...
Can't mash "A"

Some people just want to jam A and don't like efficient play, I guess. Phase based is more tactical though, especially in regards to healing and status effects and dealing with initiative, can't just wait until you have 1 hit left on your character to heal him because you might get smacked before the spell goes off, though not all jRPGs go that far.

How deep does this rabbit hole go?

Probably one of the best standard JRPGs in terms of gameplay and mechanics, also lot of fun puzzles and sidequest
Only problem is the story: its kind of generic and not very interesting. Most of the time you are just wandering from city to city for absolute no reason
and the ending is still very sad

Link to the Past meets Dragon Quest, with a better story than both. It rules.

lufia 2 dungeons/puzzles kick the shit out of zelda dungeons/puzzles.

Damage falls within a range, accuracy can be gauged, not all attacks miss, enemy HP is often static. You usually know after one fight how best to handle a configuration of enemies.

You should know after one battle what your party can do against the enemy. These games weren't made for retards.

you literally have to beat him like 4 times, and each time he doesnt get any buffs, so by the third time is just a chore and not fun at all
also he removes Dekar from your party, literally fuck this guy

You guys are trying to overcomplicate a problem that boils down to
>oh I kill this enemy type in about X attacks from my one guy, and Y attacks from my other guy
At worst you will occasionally crit or miss, which will sway the numbers by 1, but the game is, shockingly, balanced around this happening.
