None of the things you said are true, the controls are great, intuitive and responsive, the mini games are varied and well made, the game constantly has new themes and even changes game modes so it's the contrary of repetitive, as for uninspired... there is literally nothing like Goemon out there.

So it's not a real opinion. You're just looking to find old games to shit on to pretend like this makes you as a person and your taste grow by extension, but in reality especially when the arguments are blatantly ridiculous, it does the opposite of that. This is the equivalent of a movie enthusiast in his 20s going "Alien ? Yeah actually it's shit! the story is unoriginal and the effects are bad! We have it so much better with movies now, am I glad we have such superior taste instead of those boomers we had to put up with this shit because they didn't know any better haha!"

Does anyone actually like this game /that/ much anyway? The game just kinda screams 'i want something different to play today'. It's not Konami's finest, or 2D action's finest, but it's sort of interesting and different to play, occasionally.

i usually lose interest at the mountain top. with the owl fencer enemies. i absolutely adored this game as a kid because it felt like there was just so much to do. being able to go into the arcade and play other games was amazing. same with the quiz show. as an adult you will not be wowed by these things

Yeah this game is a lot like River City Ransom in that way. AMAZING for kids, less so for adults. I agree that it is weak mechanically. Not actively bad or anything, but weak. For me it's still supported pretty well by the extreme charm that bursts out of every corner of it, but I don't feel any hunger to ever actually replay it for reasons other than nostalgia. I like the game and I was highly impressed with it as a kid, but even then it wasn't really the main action or the level design that I liked, it was the atmosphere and the minigames. It's a cool game but I personally wouldn't recommend it to the average young gamer of today. I can see how OP got tricked, though I don't like the idea that every disappointed person who got tricked in this way needs to go vent that disappointment with a mean-spirited thread like this. I mean at least mention how good the music is, dummy.

You're reaching way too far so you can fight your strawman. It's not necessarily a fake opinion. People do have very different tastes, and this game does get a lot of hype despite being a bland, basic action game with nothing special going on, at its core... plus loads and loads of inspired decorations of various sorts piled on top of that. It's very easy for me, a person who likes this game, to imagine somebody genuinely being disappointed with it the way OP allegedly was. OP is being a bit of a douche yes; a very brief, ungenerous complaint about a famous classic is a bad seed for a new thread. But OP is not necessarily being phony.
