Yeah, impressive for the time. A huge leap in capabilities from 5th Gen. It was truly amazing. I remember playing Xbox at a friend's house and being stunned at the graphics. Can't remember what we played but it was like an action game in a dungeon or something.

Far Cry Instincts is one of the best looking games on OG Xbox. The PS2 port got cancelled, I wonder how that would have looked like.
I think Xbox had still quite a lot of unused power.
Some early Xbox games can look kinda flat and blocky.

7th gen systems were designed for HDTVs, 5th gen systems were designed for composite CRTs
Look you can bicker all you want, but there's bad bloomy brown and good bloomy brown. I think OP's example looks pretty and evocative. You don't need to screech and hang onto the Famicom aesthetic ideal to appreciate other type of visuals.

It's an extremely low detail, upside down version of the environment around the water that's visible on the water surface
A lot of elements like trees are even 2D billboards that rotate to face you

Saturn and Playstation have RGB natively. >>11947885
Genuinely how does someone look at this and think it looks good?
>>11947880
They probably couldn't get it to run well on a PS2.
The Wii port looks so weird. I never got to play the X360 version, even though I planned to.
>>11947918 >I never got to play the X360 version
It has both of the original Xbox versions at 720p, looks good and runs smoothly but it *needs* the title updates. There's an insane amount of input lag off the disc. I don't even know how that happens. I haven't played it as much as the Xbox original so I can't vouch for it being as good.

It does look super sharp even over composite. It has to be the flicker filter the console uses, it's aggressive on component but for composite it's great.

I was always super impressed by good looking vidya water in the early 00s. I enjoyed everything about 6th gen graphics but stuff like water refraction, ripples and dynamic reflections was always mesmerizing, probably because unlike models and textures, it wasn't something we previously had but better, it was entirely new effects
A shame I didn't see this game in action back then
I did the Bad Update exploit on 360, recommend me some xhueg games that work in backcompat
or xbla arcade games, I already got Daytona USA and Konami Simpsons working

It's pretty similar, you'll find it's a little sharper and prettier but the controls are a little nicer with triggers. Play some more obscure Xbox games like Breakdown, Carve, Panzer Dragoon Orta as well.

Hell yeah, it is great. Final boss sucks and filtered me personally but I want to give it another try. A very strange but enjoyable game with some insane writing and plot.

Thanks for this image
Adding it to the ShitBox image collage
I also need one image (with fps graph) of the Thief 2 on the Xbox. Runs at 20 fps and below.

I forget, but didn't THUG or some other Tony Hawk game run at 720p on the Xbox? It really helps either way to help that version of the game hold up very well.

I have seen some other xbox game shots that look like 'perfect graphics' to me (sorry i never got to play an xbox). but not these, these look like when you swam with your eyes open in the pool too much and chlorine did damage, or when a person films with a phone with a scratched lens
>>11947872 >7th gen systems were designed for HDTVs
Most 7th gen games have 4:3 support and most people played them on 4:3 consumer CRT's over composite for the first few years.

You were barely out of diapers when the 360 launched. Illegible text in early titles like Dead Rising and Banjo N&B played on SDTVs was a huge debacle back in the day, to the point where MS released patching specifically to address the problem. PS3 didn't have as much of an issue but it was still there -- good luck reading fucking anything in Demon's Souls on a 4:3 display.

I actually had to suffer through this at one point around 2011 or so. My HDTV got broken during a house party and I dug out my old 32'' CRT so I could keep playing DeS and Killzone 2 while saving up for a few weeks to buy a new TV, and I couldn't read fucking anything. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I remember playing Dead Rising at a buddy's house on his composite-only 360 in 2006 too, that was fucking miserable; especially since all of the characters conversed in text in-game. Thankfully it motivated me to get an HDMI model when I picked one up later that year.

a friend of mine brought over their xbox360 for a while and i had a hooked up to a 27"crt that had component input but only did 480i
literally could not read half the text in forza, can't even imagine how bad composite would be lmao
