Did Sega of America produce anything worthwhile for the Saturn? Sega Away team seemed to create nothing but shit. Even in the areas that were perfected on the Genesis like Platformers and sports games they still fuck up with shit like Bug and NFL 97

blame Sega of Japan. Bug was meant to be a sonic title (which would have worked way better) but were denied by them.

The only thing I only about this game is that it was endorsed by Steven Spielberg for some reason

I don't even remember them producing anything worthwhile for the Mega Drive.

Bug’s gameplay isn’t really appealing though. That version of 2.5D platforming never caught on for a reason

Do you have a single fact to back that up?

This comes from a 2019 interview with David Warhol, producer at Realtime Associates who is credited in Bug!

You have to respect these guys for making this shit game with only assembly and constantly evolving, poorly designed hardware, and no documentation.

SegaSoft published this, developed by Appaloosa Interactive (people who made Ecco the Dolphin games). Cool game. Can't think of any American developed ones though for Saturn. I kinda liked Bug games as a kid but knew they weren't great even then. The 3D was the most interesting part really.

If I had played Bug as a kid I'd probably think it's pretty good. I only ever tried the demo for Bug Too. At least Vimm's thinks its great.

They tried making a new Eternal Champions and Comix Zone 2, but they both got shot down. Instead they wasted several million dollars on an FMV adventure that got canned after it was finished (it got leaked online and it's really as bad as it sounds like).

Congo isn't an FPS game, it's an FMV rail shooter that just happens to not be FMV or on-rails.

They tried to make a few titles but the short story is that Yuji Naka found a way to fuck everything up because he didn't want his own games to be overshadowed.
Then Bernie Stolar got hired on to oversee the Saturn, and we all know what happened after that.

It seems rather silly how Sega of America didn't even have access to the company's development tools, but I guess that's what happens when you're a Japanese company trying to erase any and all evidence that you were in fact an American company that profited off of WWII's military leisure market before selling your name to the very country you fought against.

This is why we don't use AI for anything other than coom porn images. The only two American-developed games in that summary are Zombies Ate My Neighbors (Lucasarts) and Rock 'n Roll Racing (Silicon & Synapse, who later became Blizzard)

Hudson and Red Company took a fat crap on whatever westies were making at the time.
Had SoA brought it over and promoted both games, with a few additional tweaks, these would have been major hits in America.

But NO, they're insistant that their fish eyed shovelware and the eurojank marble madness/mappy clone were the golden bullet for the platform. This is a game for a fucking $399 console, it better look like something to dive several hours into.
