i was to write that i did that too, then i remebered that i first played it on super nintendo.
Finnished both versions, snes first, then ps1.
Very much liked the snes version, which is a decent and very playable port, actually written by carmack himself. It has all the music tracks from the pc version, which were good enough conversions to impress me.
After snes i played the PS1 version. It doesnt have the music, but instead has this weird, threatening sounding ambient noises, with ocassional monsters screaming, more or less loudly, depending how far they are. While the music on snes is great, and probably even greater on the PC version, which i never played, i think the ps1 ambient sounds add so much too the athmosphere, that i assume it to be the superior port over the PC, and most likely the definitive Version of Doom of all platforms.
