Does the top one look blurry because you can't take pics or because it's a shitty print job on the label? If the latter then that was is definitely fake. Both could be fake though, open them up and check the board.

That makes me think the label might have been replaced too. Also, bootlegs tend to use plastic screws. Yours are metal. They're both legit, the left one's just been worked on.

preservation question:
do the batteries pose any risk, like leaking (like how my hess trucks got fucked up because i never took the batteries out as a kid)?
if i truly want to preserve something, should i remove the battery and keep it in a separate (labeled) baggy or something?

Left is an early pack-in version of Super Mario World. Nothing about it looks fake. The ROM chips and micro controllers look accurate for the time period, so does the yellow battery. The one on the right is clearly a later release of Super Mario World. Slightly different PCB, copywright from 1993, also the cart uses the concave SNES carts, which are legitimate and something that Nintendo switched to around 1992-1993. If you ask me, neither of these look fake. It is much harder to source ROM chips like those in this day in age. They both do look real, but were manufactured at different times. With the one on the left being the older cartridge; 1991 - 1992.
Anonymous No.11953987
>>11953980
Also, another thing to note... one of the ROM chips says GoldStar. Goldstar merged with another company (Lucky Chemical) in 1995 and they changed the company name to LG.

Oh fuck it, you're right. I thought those Yellow ring batteries were from early 1990-1991 carts. But, if I can source them on Amazon. I guess it does have a replaced battery. Same battery as image related, has the same Japanese text. Might be a launch window SMW cartridge that had a dead battery.

Button cell batteries are too small to leak in any damaging capacity. The only time battery leaks will fuck things up are with AAs and larger cells like Ds. And that's only if you leave it in there for like 5+ years without ever touching or moving it.

The reason why it was the most popular game on the console, is because it was the pack-in game at launch for the 'Super Set'. This was the most common pack-in bundle, followed by the Super Mario Super set that came with Super Mario World and Super Mario All-stars. The majority of Super Mario World copies sold were bundled with the SNES with the reminder of them being sold stand alone at retail. The boxed retail copies are pretty rare to come by. Also Donkey Kong Country was a popular alternative pack-in to Super Mario World from 1994 to about 1995.
