I went to high school in Soutj America and had a Sega Nomad. The kids ooh’d and aah’d and said it looked better than the GBA.

Did you mistake the Nomad for the Game Gear or are you saying there are no good Genesis games?

There was nothing good on the gameboy though but the batteries on the sega were shit. The lesson is handhelds were/are garbage. The equivalent of phones used as candy crush machines by commuting hr women

There because its the only techical level small children and HR women could manage

still can't believe how bad sega dropped the ball on the portable market with the Nomad.

They could have kept all the developers from the Genesis still making games uninterrupted in development while they were moving to 32-bit for home consoles. the GBC vs a full featured Genesis in a portable size? That you could plug a 2nd controller in, and plug out to a tv? Thats just a mismatch.

It was a genesis they had developed for airplanes that they just slapped a screen on and tried to sell for a quick buck.

Lol. No I just got it on ebay along with some RPGs because my mom didn’t want to get me a real console. So because of that I got into playing KOF and street fighter at the arcade with the other thirdies. Only had one altercation with a guy who was drunk once.

I have a nomad with a lcd screen mod. It's really cool but more of a fun oddity than something i regularly use. I love the genesis library

Makes sense, if you believe winning a hardware battle comes down purely to having the more powerful device. In reality though, the Nomad would still lose due to cost and not having Pokemon.

I had one as a kid. Nomad was the goat. I used an AC car adapter and never used batteries. It had tv hookups too.
I would take a few good pickup and play games on road trips

Despite the size, the Nomad is surprisingly comfortable for the hands. The D-pad is also exceeds expectations beyond its looks and a shame was not used again. I never got a GBC, but one day I hope to get one as it also has a lot of great games that appeal to me.

Two excellent games. Air Busters is underrated, it's nearly arcade perfect and keeps the 2 player option. There are far too few 2 player shmups on the Genesis.

It is neat that the Nomad does hook up to a TV as well. I wish that feature was also on the TurboExpress for the novelty too.

In my area of the USA, no one wanted Sega gaming systems, it was all SNES. I still remember Blockbuster Video would always have only the boxes of SNES games, but no rental cases behind them, while the whole Sega aisle would have everything available to rent with multiple rental cases behind the Genesis boxes. Between Toys R' Us and Blockbuster, I remember getting the 32X for $20USD and the Nomad was $30USD but I don't remember which I got where. I'd imagine others got in on those clearance items, but they still are uncommon in comparison to Nintendo systems.

It was probably the first time I experienced multiplats. My cousins didn't like it, probably due to the difficulty and was already kind of weary of shooting games having already a so-so experience with Gaiares (the 4th game they got for the Genesis). They still were up for some co-op in Air Busters once in while still.

have to agree early Nintendo did a good job, it had more hype though and to be fair genesis had good stuff too and that nomad looks awesome but I read it breaks faster (duno if thats accurate)

still rather have that genesis handheld
