Nintendo 64
The perfect console for FPS, Fighting and Racing games.
Anonymous No.11959403
Eh, racing games did not have a perfect console until analog triggers became a norm.

just a shame the controller fell apart after 20-30 years

Let's be honest. A m&kb is best fps or PS2/Xbox layout. That's the consensus, (YOU) may have an unpopular opinion, but that's majority rule for good reason. Fighting games are best played with an arcade pad setup, and some autists are even using a keyboard, but the N64 dpad and lack of fighting games compared to its competitors, really makes it a horrible choice for every fighting game besides its own niche subgenre of smash. And racing games? It's got a nice selection of fun racing games, but I wouldn't put it over using a steering wheel setup any day.

Absolutely, most people tend to remember only the 1st/2nd party titles. There's very little love for Treasure's output...

If only the n64 had been home to such revolutionary games as The Final Fantasy Seven: Cloud Gets Raped in the Hot Tub and Alundra 2. Miyamoto bros, we lost bigly...

Ah, you mean the Dreamcast. Yes, it has all you need in terms of FPS, fighters and racing games.

And if you feel that the racing aspect is a bit lacking, you now have this:

You literally played through all 20 missions in one day (today)? Or you finally beat your last one today? Do you feel like a secret agent yet?

Just played Beetle Adventure racing for the first time after seeing some recommendations. Despite looking and sounding like a German windows shovelware title its surprisingly decent.
And contrary to popular opinion, Cruisn USA is absolute twitchy shit (yes even on a n n64 controller). How and why everyone loves this game i'll never know.

Finally finished it all yesterday. Took a few days to do it. Control was pretty bad, mostly for the turret sniping. I think that's the second time I've ever beaten Control.

Dreamcast didn’t have much that wasn’t better on PC. Outtrigger is fun (online is back up and running!!)… but what else are we talking about here?

A lot of Dreamcast FPS were completely online multiplayer deathmatch focused as was the fad at the time. Turok: Rage Wars was the N64 version of this, and it would have been a fine game, but there’s no N64 multiplayer.

I can’t think of a Dreamcast exclusive FPS with single player gameplay as good as Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Doom 64, or even the Turoks and TWINE. Powerslave on Saturn was great and exclusively designed for the system but the Dreamcast had no follow-up Metroidvania style FPS. Soldier of Fortune is the premier a single player fps on the system that I can think of. It’s a PC port that was also ported to PS2. It’s a mid-tier game imo and its on other systems.

Why play Quake 3, Soldier of Fortune, Rainbow Six, or Unreal Tournament on DC over PC?

Forgot to mention I was just talking FPS here.

Cool beans, dude. I pulled out the ol' 007 Goldeneye and had a whack at it a couple weeks back. I am literally starting all over again. They just don't make 'em like this anymore.

It's great fun when you get to start all over again and some of your memories come back to help you with some of the mission objectives.

I was just shitposting when I made my comment on UT.

>Outtrigger is fun (online is back up and running!!)
Man, that's really cool. I wish there was a simpler solution to getting the Dreamcast online than the current choices between the DreamPi and an annoyingly expensive BBA.

>but the Dreamcast had no follow-up Metroidvania style FPS
Thinking of Castleroids in general, the Dreamcast never really had a killer title in that genre, did it? There was Soul Reaver, but that's about it, no?

>Why play Quake 3, Soldier of Fortune, Rainbow Six, or Unreal Tournament on DC over PC?
Perfectly good point. I mainly use my DC for PSOv2, Soul Calibur, SF3, Ikaruga and one of my favorite puzzle titles: Wetrix.

> There was Soul Reaver, but that's about it, no?
Dreamcast got the best version of Shadow Man. But like Soul Reaver, it’s a multiplat.

FPS and racing yeah (except for more "realistic" racers). Fighting games, fuck no. It didn't even have a real 2D fighter at all. No SF no MVC nothing. It had a shit version of Killer Instinct a shit version of the worst Mortal Kombat and then just random no name 3D fighters like Biofreaks. And Smash Bros doesn't count because it's not a fighter it's just a party game.

Racing absolutely.

Not sure what fighting games you're touting for it, though.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy on N64 is the one played competitively.

Yes it is, many of the games have aged really well. Starfox 64 alone is better than just about any game that comes out today.

They were built for a good time not for a long time. I do still have a few original controllers in good condition though so they're not too bad if not abused.
