I just played this game for the first time the other day and damn is it stylish, the tornado and the 3D interiors and the goofy radio and all and the levels feel great and the color palettes are perfect even if they're so short. I can see how someone who played it a bunch in their youth would end up being one of the guys with 3000 hours in American Truck Simulator.

I still don't get how GT3 manages to look more aesthetically pleasing than 4.

The color palette. GT3 has a very warm overall palette and some really interesting track lighting that's basically custom tailored to show off road reflectivity, tree shadows, etc. Same as how GT3 has totally different skyboxes and lighting on some courses for the reverse version compared to forward. The effects like headlight flares or color shift paint on cars are exaggerated just a little and even the HUD is the classic Gran Turismo orange (plus the awesome 'in car' look of the first person gauges with the trip meter and fake VFD panel). GT4 is really flat in its lighting and ugly in its color choices, which I guess is more realistic but just feels cold and harsh instead.

Pretty much this. GT3 has that pre-9/11 optimistic air. The sun was brighter, the foliage was greener, the color palette was more vibrant. GT4 on the other hand is one of those early games that sacrificed having a distinct visual style for photorealism

older dirt games also look better than the modern ones. I think you're right, it's the warmer color palette. also the stylistic night levels with arena lighting over the track looks more cinematic and cooler than the sharper, more 4k modern games trying to look hyper realistic

I remember that you could abuse the system by using certain letters that use more characters in japanese or some shite, to create strong, cheap spells. There where was a thread on GF but that was before they stopped deleting threads.
