I want to play an old game that's not an RPG or a sandbox where the main character is constantly smug or can be made to do so. 20th century games preferred. Must include non-trivial amount of dialogue. What should I play?

man I fucking love JC. It blows my mind that despite being created as an emotionless, somewhat blank slate character he has a hundred times more personality than almost any gaming character nowadays.
Hampstead is a satirical text adventure released for the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64. The player begins the game in a filthy council flat, has to get a high-paying job in the city, woo a beautiful model and buy a house on Hampstead Heath.
