I’m trying to beat Alien Soldier on Superhard, but I can’t get past this guy without taking a beating. What’s the secret?

I’ve tried playing Alien Soldier a few times and get so filtered by the controls. It seems like the kind of game I’d like, but the weapon switching and hover-jumping is too complicated and makes me feel retarded, I don’t know why I can’t wrap my brain around it.

I believe there's a 6-button patch that makes the controls less daunting.

He alternates attacks with his left and right arm, so you have to move the boat into the left and right edges of the screen in rhythm with his attacks. When the boat is pushed against the side of the screen, you can safely avoid his arm attack by i-frame dashing through it and into the edge of the screen. The edge of the screen will prevent you from falling off the boat. It's been a while but I'm pretty sure this is how I did it.

I haven't beaten it on super hard yet, but I've gotten all the way to Seven Force on that difficulty.
My big jump in capability came from me replicating some of the speedrun strategies.

The bosses where I *really* improved by trying to replicate the speedrun are:
the one you're on:
the sword spinning samurai
the blob-spewing penis alien
the butterfly
the upside down spider thingy

God Luck and Godspeed, Anon!

1CCing this game in Saturn Mode is fucking impossible. Not only do you need to set aside 1 entire hour but you need to play near-perfectly the whole time in order to stand a chance. I have well over 100 hours in this game and I don't feel like I'm even close.

Have you tried giving yourself more lives and more generous life bonus points in the options menu? Yeah it's not quite the same as doing everything on default settings but it is an option they give you. Scoring for weapon upgrades is so difficult that I'd consider it fair play

Saturn RSG has training features like level select and visible hitboxes, but you have to unlock them by playing a certain number of hours. The rereleases have even better training options with letting you manually set your weapon levels and stuff. I'm using save states and it works fine for me.

Advance Guardian Heroes isn't hated enough. It is the epitome of what some people would call "parryslop". The game doesn't allow you to do jack shit, you just have to sit there and spam parry over and over. Also the game's story takes a huge, steaming dump on everything that took place in the first game. If I was a bigger fan of the original, I would be pissed. On top of all this, whoever translated this game doesn't speak a lick of English.
