I think there are a lot of reasons, but for one, a bulk of 2D Bomberman games have similar slow-paced gameplay build around the same core - navigate a maze while setting bombs to blow up blocks and enemies. You have to really get into the game to start noticing the differences. Before that, though, you begin with 1 puny bomb and no powerups, you have to meticulously dig through blocks to find these, and in a lot of these games, levels don't make a whole lot of effort to feel unique, so it just looks like you're going through similar grid mazes in slightly different coat dressings. And lord help you if you aren't already familiar with the powerups and didn't read the manual, because the old games just won't tell you what do the icons do, so if you don't know that and don't have time for experimentation, you'll be missing out on a whole layer of gameplay.
