Because it was rushed to market to 1 up Sega and as a result, the hardware is shit.

PS2 has a comically small texture buffer compared to all competitors, Dreamcast included. Straight ports would often not get enough time/funding to properly reprogram (an actually doable task) a game around PS2's limitations, resulting in poor showing on the console.

It is the sixth gen console with the weakest hardware by far. The PS2 only sold because of the DVD player and backwards compatibility.

no regular person cared about 480p vs 480i in the 00s, especially on crts

Less than a percent of customers used component cables on EDTV's.
All GameCube and Dreamcast games also have flicker filters when outputting interlaced video.

It was the stepping stone up from the Dreamcast, and not quite as "future-proofed" as the Xbox, with the Gamecube being a weird outlier of better power but its own Nintendo brained design decisions. It's easy to figure that Sony simply had been so focused on making the new step of gaming that there wasn't a lot of foresight but the HDD slot.

No they aren't. They look identical on a CRT. 480p is irrelevant. PS2 games at 480i only have blur when you deinterlace.

low res textures and bi-linear filtering(xbox and gamecube supported tri), all things being equal the games would come out blurrier. lack of progressive scan is a red herring, niche feature only a small segment of the 6th gen audience could take advantage of and only noticeable now with emulation.

Emulator screengrabs. Both the dreamcast and the DC have a strongk analog blur on their output. The PS2 famously didn't and because of whining from idiots devs would be made to ruin their games with shitty software blurs. Do a proper capture from real hardware of all three and you'll see there's not that big a difference. Every console gen has some bullshit you just have to live with.
