How is it not a rail shooter?
I think it's a good game, an odd rail shooter, but very good. I would like it regardless if it's pokemon or not (in fact ir would be cool if the same idea was used for an original setting, think a horror game for example).
BTW, if you never beat the default hi-scores in each area, you didn't beat the game.

A good game to play at your friend's house for few hours. Instead of spending their time and resources on Stadium games and this shit, they should've just made a proper 3D Pokemon game for N64.

Is it really that short? I remember playing the game for a while going for the best pictures/scores possible. You don't just speed through it

Because you are taking pictures and there's no bullets. Shooting a picture isn't the same thing as shooting a weapon. It definitely plays really similar but there's no combat so I can see differentiating it. It's like non combat rail shooter mixed with a collectathon.

For the 64? It's a good and unique game.
The only major problem is it's too short and has too many pokemon missing from the original 151.
I'm not sure if that was due to console limitations or dev cycle constraints but whatever, its a fun few hours.

You are on rails and shooting shit. It just had the bare minimum of innovation so you were taking pictures instead of going pew pew. By that same logic Sin and Punishment and Star Fox should be a different subgenre because you can move and do flips instead of being, but it's just being pedantic. >>11976109 >Hotshot 151 Pokemon and overstay your welcome with the game while leaving little room for followups.
No Gengar did tick me off though.
It’s a good, unique game that could have used some more time in the oven. It’s not really my thing because it’s never going to be Panzer Dragoon or S&P or Starfox 64, but when I play it I have an ok time. A few more stages and pokemon would have made it better, so I guess since I was left wanting more it has to be good. I would love to see a romhack, I wonder how hard it would be.

been a while since i played it but it only had 5 or 6 areas/courses to visit and it didnt have all 151 pokemon either, its like luigis mansion, a dedicated player can finish it in a day, a kid might take a few more days or a week depending on how long they are allowed to game for

Yea it would’ve been there best selling game probably. All they had to do was a simple 3d transfer of rby and nothing else and it would’ve printed money.
>>11975965 >It's like non combat rail shooter
This is how I've always explained it. It's a rail shooter without any combat or violence. Not a bad idea for a kids game really.
If it didn’t have the Pokémon branding I don’t think it would be fondly remembered beyond the unique mechanic of being a rail shooter where you take pictures.

Dude is literally Team Rocket hiring Tracy to capture Pikachu
