Doesn't beetle Saturn support it? or are we just talking standalones

Yeah, Beetle is the winner overall if we aren't strictly talking standalones. However, I have a feeling Ymir might be something special one day. If it ends up supporting uprendering, it'll have a HUGE advantage over Yaba Sanshiro.

This.

If you're emulating with things like mediocre and small micro SD cards, this sort of compact format is a life saver.

Ymir dev is working with the MiSTer dev and a guy who is making a ton of new real hardware tests, filling and targeting a load of the Saturn's knowledge gaps. The MiSTer core has already implemented everything and is amazing, Ymir will get there in time too. I think in a year of so no one will be recommending Mednafen anymore.

This guy, Ymir and the MiSTer core owe them a LOT.

Here's some ME trivia for you:
Magic Engine had an archaic and over engineered copy-protection. When registered, customer would receive a keyfile which contained his name, serial and part of the program all encrypted. So, when you run MagicEngine, it decrypts keyfile, checks serial against a blacklist and then executes part of its content as x86 program.
Why old keyfiles didn't work with next versions of ME, is because author kept adding them to this blacklist and he was quite vigilant about it seemingly monitoring forums, IRC channels, Usenet, etc.
This copy protection would have been quite effective, if it would be difficult to obtain keyfiles, since you would be unable to recreate the code that executes as a part of the program. But obviously, with the advancement of internet those key files kept going around and author was essentially fighting a tidal wave. So to defeat the copy protection, all you had to do was get whatever old keyfile and alter the black list check routine.
PICO8 is almost an emulator. Same as Magic Engine it goes for $15. but has zero copy protection. Everyone pirates it, there are even recreations on github but author doesn't waste his time chasing after every illegal copy for which he is a happier man with more hair on his head.

Why do you like file bloat so much?

Has anyone had any experience emulating the Saturn's lightgun with the mouse? I'm having calibration issues with House of the Dead using Mednafen, pic related, when I calibrate pixel perfect in the center the gun ends up off the further I get from the center (see bullet hole not being on the crosshair).

Any way to fix this?

Quoting to read this shit tomorrow as I am too drunk now.
Also, if anyone has the time to answer, what is the best Saturn stand-alone at the moment, and if you are running DS4 on Win11 and the actual DS4 controller is working well, will introducing a Dual Sense fuk things up and create complications? Should I stick to DS4 only, or can I use both at the same time easily?

I've been trying for HOURS to get ParaLLEl Launcher's pre-packaged installation of RetroArch to load shaders and something somewhere is hard-disabling the feature to the point where it didn't even let me enable the feature until I replaced it with the latest nightly build. Very rarely I will actually get it to fully load CRT Royale but then it gets reset (likely by PL). What do I do and who is responsible for this?

I've already tried caving and just using RetroArch normally but it doesn't like my NSO N64 controller at all, and PL also has that romhacking.com integration.

Not unless you use DS4Windows + HidHide, then you're all set.
Anonymous No.11979570
Is it me or is PCSX2 (I'm using nightly) getting enshittified? I've been getting worse performance than a year ago. Used to be able to run games at 3X internal resolution without stuttering, now even 2X chokes often. It's got to the point that even RA's LRPS2 outperforms it.

https://github.com/oyvindln/vhs-decode/wiki/Visual-Video-Signal-Errors

if you're trying to do a shader I'd just watch some vaporwave videos on youtube and copy what they're doing, aesthetics are more important than realism
also I hate when I want to edit shader parameters and it's like trying to decipher an electrical engineering textbook

anon, please use your brain, the vhs aesthetic isn't about a pristine vhs tape, it's about a 12th generation recording of a recording, on extended mode, in a dirty vhs player, with certain elements exaggerated for presentation purposes

Also home videos. There's a massive difference between the quality of the video produced by a home camcorder on cheap VHS tape that's likely been recorded over a dozen times and a VHS tape that came directly from Disney's manufacturing line with the video recorded onto it using professional equipment and an immaculate master copy.

First of all, depends on the shader and the content. You're more likely to have ringing artifacts from 480i/480p content than 240p. Stuff like integer scaling might have an effect.

I think 1440p is fine. I played with a bunch of curved shaders on 1080p and only fake-crt-geom produced the effect, but at 1440p it looks fine
