I'm 100% convinced that if it wasn't for my dislikes, this game would've gone down as one of the greats. Amazing combat system with the uppoke and downpoke unlocks. Great music. Epic overworld. Magic spells. Cool bosses. Charming beautiful towns. RPG like levelling system.

I have so much 8/10 memories of this game flanked by 1/10 moments. Still the only good iteration of shadow link.

i really didnt like the game because of how different it was. the overworld was bland and i hated the random encounters, especially towards the endgame.

fun action game, prefer it to Zelda 1.

i think the hitboxes could be a bit better. make the stupid sword one pixel longer. and jumping less of a sudden jolt.

I like the mysterious adventure vibes it has. I like the structure. I love the music. I love it's graphics and visuals.

The combat fundamentally doesn't work. It's completely broken and the entire game is centered around it which completely ruins the game. There isn't a single person on the planet that doesn't resort to abusing the AI in order to win. If you don't do that jumping/while-landing attack trick you will NOT beat this game. Enemy's will block even if you stab low while they're guarding high. The abhorrent combat is one of the worst on the entire system and completely negates any reason to try this game. One of the worst one the NES and all time. Truly 0/0 game.

Yeah basically this, I think it's too far to say it's 0/0. I think it's OK but complete bullshit, on the plus side it's challenging and you get more replay value.

The jumping thing is FR though. I've read reviews where people talk about the combat system and how they like it but I have no idea how they can mashing the down key and manic stabbing, it just seems impossible. The enemies move and respond too fast and the window to damage them is too narrow. Also those boomerang enemies are difficult enough, it's already extremely difficult to attack them and block boomerangs coming from below and behind. I mainly use the jump-landing attack for knights and bosses. I do a run-duck-stab for skeletons and other enemies like that axe faggot and button mash to stab the shit out of everything else. Very badly done, it's like Ninja Gaiden without the satisfaction, precise feeling and everything that makes it fun. The timing is just off.
