With this Western release, the Saturn is saved...

I owned it on PS1. I thought the roster was boring.
By the time it was released, people weren't content with just any fighting game, no matter how good the graphics or gameplay were. People wanted fun and diverse rosters. On PS1 at least, Tekken 3 was the king, MK Trilogy was still popular (more so than MK4). A good SFA3 port came out a year later. DoA was like going back to a VF2 or vanilla SF2 kind of roster.

DOA2 was received even better and 3 was a pretty big deal for Xbox. It really was around volleyball that things kind of took a turn for the worst.

DoA2 and 3 sold well enough. The question is about DoA1 sales and popularity. It sold 180k on Saturn and 280k on PS1 across all regions. Didn't even break half million combined.

the booba market was still in its infancy.

This but unironically. Boobs physics was seen as cringe, especially if you had parents in your room when playing this game

give me one fucking reason -that isnt being a coomer- that someone should have bought it instead or Rival Schools or Tekken 3 that released before/same year on the PS1, because who the fuck cares about the Saturn lmao

I think is just the late 90's the market was complete oversatured with 2D and 3D fighting games, so in order to get sales you really needed to introduce something spectacular
