Would it have outsold the Xbox if it could play n64 games?

>add backwards compatibility
>use full size discs so every multiplat isn’t gimped
>make a controller that isn’t missing a select button, clickable sticks, second z-button. also add an actual dpad than an ant-sized cross so fighters and 2D games are horse shit to play
>don’t design it after a gay purple lunchbox 6 year old girls take to school
>don’t remove online functionality from every game that’s ported to the GC
There’s just too much wrong with the cube to salvage it.

While that would have been nice, the GameCube has enough ludos to keep you entertained for years

If your selling point for a new console is past consoles then it's a grim future for that console.

No. The big reason why PS1 games and even the consoles continued to be so popular well into the next gen, PS1 hardware alone outsold the Gamecube during that consoles lifespan, is because they were cheap.
Budget titles, used games, re-releases of old games etc. It was such a good deal for consumers that Square continued to sell their PS1 back-catalogue all the way into the 2010's.
Meanwhile N64 games were so god damn expensive to make that multiple finished N64 games didn't get published even when the console was at peak relevancy due to the risks simply not being worth it. So even if N64 games kept being sold for a back-compat Gamecube for a few more years, the financial risks would be too great for almost anyone to bother printing new carts.
