There's a point to be made that "universally hyped games" are often games that got sucked off by magazines because they had good pre rendered graphics or something, while "universally reviled games" are often actually fine, and the internet just arbitrarily decided they were bad, like 20 years ago.
I remember the days when Megaman Legends and MGS2 were still considered broadly bad games, so I'm very open to reappraisal.
I think the thing about Quest 64 is it's just very one-note and uninteresting. I don't think it's strictly a bad game at all. People decided it was a bad game because it wasn't FF7.
