You sure about that? The only major fault I can remember was they went really hard on spawning enemy's behind you, it was like every other corridor did that.

Doom 3 vanilla is great. I had only played bfg edition until I got vanilla on gog for like a dollar and it actually is very good. I think the levels lack variety but the effort pit into visuals and animations is really amazing for the time and still holds up (except for the facial animation in the cutscenes)

I get rid of that. I also boost the speed of the pinky, hell knight, and revenant. I don’t change much of the weapons beyond boosting the pistol and nerfing nearly all ammo pickups.

It was. I like Doom 3 a lot, but that shotgun is just fucking stupid.

>>11993628
"Subverting expectations" by making the SG dogshit because the SSG in Doom 2 could be overrelied upon, is cosmically retarded. They should have just made it closer to the original shotgun, pretty decent range but also not too powerful. Hell, the SSG isn't even in base Doom 3, and it would have been a million times better to just follow the Doom 2 dichotomy of a modest but decently reaching SG, and then the SSG spreading far and wide.

>>11993590
Level and environmental variety is definitely Doom 3's greatest weakness, relying too much on murky gray steel corridors is a crying shame when they did such a fucking good hell.

It's decent against zombie and imp crowds. Once you start going against numerous demons and anything beefier it starts to feel tedious because it's not powerful at all: It's the second gun you'll pick up, arguably second worst gun of classic Doom.
On the flip, the D3 shotgun has awful range but with much more "relevant" damage: Most of the enemies are dying in one or two shells.

Worst weapon in the entire game was easily the chaingun. The machine gun completely mogged it. The chaingun suffered from that 2000s "YOU HAVE TO BE SLOW AS DOGSHIT because much realism" plague. Even though real chainguns are faster than your eyes can comprehend. The only worse chaingun was the one from Fallout 3. A total abomination.

There's plenty on the other spectrum, too, and that's where the shotgun really starts to suffer: It can take up to three shells to kill a demon, five for a revenant, up to seven for a caco, eight for hellknights, nine for mancubus, and up to sixteen for a baron.

I dont like the fact that the Xbox port got coop out of the box and we on PC didnt. I tried multiplayer once and it was lame as hell. I was gunning for this one guy and instead of shooting back he ran away to a dark corner. End result: select Rocket Launcher, mouse button 1, and he goes WAH HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN TO ME?!?!?!

The game was honestly a quality AAA game aside from these minor issues. I never even installed the duct tape mod. People cried so much about the gayest things...

But it's completely fucked that the regular Shotgun can drop an Archie in 2 shots in Doom 3. In Doom 2, you would need 3, but almost certainly 4 full hits with the Super Shotgun to down an Archie.

A lot of that's from the headshot multipliers applying to all the guns, allowing you to kill an archvile in about sixteen or so pistol rounds to the face. It's called "Doom" 3 but I'm able to still regard it as a different game so none of this bothers me.

Combat gets pretty amped up every now and then in Doom 64, Even Simpler on WMD is like a Plutonia level.
I would have liked some actual music in Doom 64 though, the main theme sounds great but then it's crickets during the gameplay.

In that sense, it really does mirror Doom 3, which had a kickass menu theme, getting me all wired the first time, but then disappointing me because there wasn't any more of it. Doom 3 has some kickass ambient sound design though.

I can compartmentalize Doom 3 from the classics, and I genuinely like the game quite a lot, yeah, but it's just disappointing that one of THE baddest monsters from the classics can be rubbed out with such ease.
I regard Doom 3 as a flawed gem, actually good, but it had more potential which could have been better realized.

Maybe some of it was Tim Willits's fault, like how he had insisted that Quake 2's enemy behavior should be less smart and capable. Quake 2 is also a flawed gem in the same way (and its multiplayer deathmatch was so good, the arsenal was fun to use).

>>11998714
The Chaingun has a good sound, and good damage, but for its windup I wish it fired faster.
The Rocket Launcher really doesn't feel great, no, it has a cool model with the sideways magazine of rocket cartridges, but the report is underwhelming.

It's still safer and more reliable to pelt him with plasma or rockets, mirroring his Doom 2 counterpart that also didn't last long against those similar weapons. You would also have come across a few BFGs before your first archvile encounter in 2 if you really wanted to minimize him.
>I regard Doom 3 as a flawed gem, actually good, but it had more potential which could have been better realized.
That's been the case with their games since Quake, and arguably even Doom 2: Its roster wasn't realized until Final Doom came along a few years later.

Thank you. I loved it. mechanically, it's a bridge between fists and the chainsaw. In story, it's a riot gun, meant to sting and terrorize a crowd of striking workers without killing or disabling them. Remember, in the narrative of the game, you're there to intimidate employees into serving the corporation without complaint, not to protect them against aliens or robbers.
