I've been thinking about replaying Bloodlines. Last time I played a typical smooth-talking Ventrue. Which clan I should pick this time? What's your favorite clan?

I am close to the end of my second run ever, as a barehand fighting Brujah. I can recommend that you avoid that, at least. It works fine but is boring.

I say unarmed build feel awful in most rpgs. I think because it feels like you just hinder yourself and limits your options by not taking weapons without getting anything special in return. As well you don't get that satisfaction from receiving new weapons. The only exception from that for me was New Vegas. Partly because there were some unarmed related weapons, partly because punching someone's head off in slow motion is just cool.
What was your first run's character btw?

I like beating the shit out of people with my hands so Gangrel is my favorite clan to play. Protean gives you aggravated damage on your unarmed attacks so you can use it through the whole game, Fortitude makes you pretty much invincible, and Level 1 Animalism is good for stealth stuff. Celerity makes the game boring no matter how you play in my opinion.

In my first run I was a Nosferatu. Also I played using some mod, probably Camarilla Edition. I don't remember it differing greatly from my current run except in that I used guns a lot more. The Nosferatu-specific aspects didn't seem to be that big a deal.

If I were to play again I'd probably pick Tremere, or some other clan with weird abilities that don't merely upgrade stats. Maybe a fan-supplied clan from a mod. There are some allegedly respectable mods that add clans, according to my brief research.

I've done Tremere, Toreador and Malkavian playthroughs and Tremere was my favorite. Blowing people up is fun.

the nossie specific changes are more prevelent in the ps2 version which is why i usually play that one. and i like playing on a big tv

I did two runs recently as Nozzie and Malk. I usually use Unofficial Patch Basic, but I tried out Lurk's Speedrun patch just to see what it was like.
The first thing that hit me was that there was no widescreen options whatsoever, the next was that the title screen had a completely different animation. Or rather the title screen used the original animation, apparently Unofficial Patch changes it to that fiery one for some reason. I knew that UP makes a lot of small changes like that, but I never realized even the Basic version has plenty of those.
What I wasn't prepared for was that a lot of the Malkavian dialogue options are actually different in UP. I wish I took some screencaps, I had the overlay disabled because the game doesn't like having it open, but there was a lot of text lines starting from Downtown all the way through where the specific wording was changed around. I guess it doesn't matter too much since it's all Malkavian, but it seems unnecessary and some of the rewritten dialogue has an edgier tone to it. Also found out that the dancing werewolf ending is also a UP-only addition, I'm a little disappointed for some reason.

Unarmed is really only meant for Gangrel as main combat. For everyone else it's just secondary or for feeding. Gangrel kind of sucks though, the attack animations are painfully slow.

The slow attack animations don't bother you? I wanted to play a Protean Gangrel but couldn't deal with that and there's no way to fix it. It's slower than basic unarmed and it's almost impossible to land every hit in a combo.

Animalism Gangrel was fun though. Played one like a tanky battlemage with close range guns instead.

I thought Celerity was pretty boring too. Dodging bullets is cool at first but the game being slower ends up feeling kind of boring. Wish it had an option to just make you faster instead.

Yeah people regularly still try to claim the basic version is just bug fixes but you get more people pointing out that's wrong now and how it still has changed so much from music, to Disciplines, to dialogue, to game balance.

I use a modified version of the True Patch and Unofficial Patch combined. It has Windows 10 support, proper widescreen, etc. I played the game without any fan patches and this is the closest thing to vanilla with bug fixes and quality of life additions.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was changed by the UP, but was your humanity lower? Lower humanity actually changes dialogue options and gives edgier responses.

Unarmed Brujah player again here - I keep feeling like the game wants and expects me to use guns, especially on certain bosses. Fights against enemies larger than humans are tricky and awkward, and not really in a fun way, though it's not super difficult or anything. I don't know whether having melee weapon skills would change anything... I guess you'd get a bit of extra range maybe? I also haven't ever played Gangrel; maybe that's more fun. Anyway, my uninformed vote would be for guns.

Just taking some dll files from the Unofficial Patch and adding them to the True Patch basically. True Patch had no Windows 10 support and poor widescreen support, so it fixed those issues. The Unofficial Patch also had some kind of fix which improved save times and that carried over too.

Nah any clan can do an unarmed build, just have five dots and either max out Strength or abuse the shit out of bloodbuff. If anything Brujah and Nos can do unarmed better than Gangrel because they have Potence, which uses the normal attack animations and therefore allow you to do the infinite combo.
