FF5
I've been at this for a while now and no matter what job combo I use it just seems impossible, she literally one shots my characters with Blizzara and there's nothing I can do!

And yes I have tried the opposite - focusing her down and leaving the goons - but it still ends badly.

this game is pretty hard honestly, i got filtered by a lot of the bosses.

You're not intended to fight Shiva the first moment you arrive in Walz Castle. You can go to the next area and buy supplies at Karnak and then walk back to the meteor and teleport back to Walz and get Shiva then. Much easier that way.

Nevermind I fucking did it, the solution was so simple I feel stupid not figuring it out sooner.

if anyone's curious
first strat
>have one White Mage, Two Black Mages and a Knight, the Knight stays in the front row while the mages nuke stuff and white mage heals - this invariably led to the Knight getting killed with Blizzara almost instantly
What I hadn't realized is that Blizzara targets all party members in one row and it does less damage the more it splits up, so the new strat was
>two Knights in front soaking up the physical damage and splitting the Blizzara damage, one Summoner group healing with Sylph and a Black Mage either nuking with Fire or healing with secondary White Magic if necessary

Your secret strat was attack with two knights and heal with 2 mages? Thats the solution to 99% of bosses in every game.

the Knights were mostly soaking the goons' damage with Guard honestly

you could have postponed it until you get fire rods from the next castle, breaking them ends the battle near instantly
but congrats for hanging in there

He already had a fire rod see pic.
He could of finished the fight in 1 turn if he just used the fire rod from the start.

When I got to Siren (early boss, shipwreck area) and got wiped in seconds I knew that this would be a good FF, and it was.

Ok now I'm sure THIS one is impossible.
Am I just supposed to let it kill a party member every time I attack it?

If you attack during one of its forms it will always counterattack.

You know you can buy infinite amounts of rods in the town right? 2 ice rods kills this boss (and almost every other boss after too) if you wanna cheese the game just buy tons of different rods.

Did you know that equipping fire rods boosts your fire spells? Test it out, they do more damage when equipped. Same for every rod and their element and the spells.

You can actually grind for Fire Rod drops in Walse Tower, if you really wanted. Even if you don't break them, equipping an elemental rod does increased damage of that element.

Yeah Shiva early is an optional challenge. There's multiple ways to do it early though.

As you found out

probably my fav FF aside tactics. You can cheese it early or brute it or grind etc.. but it's just a great game and the story is perfect, you really feel these people bond for a save the world adventure.

It's got a few hard parts but it's just good. Actually while tactics is one of my favs too I wish they had the bonus master like 5 did.

I guess OP either hasn't found another boss challenging and is busting through the game OR he's still stuck and trying to pass this boss.

I haven't gotten that much farther than that but yeah nothing's been as hard as that first stretch, the jobs you get from the fire crystal really help a lot.
