The way the water works in OP's image is that the surface just goes up and down while the same texture gets tiled across it. Weird thing to marvel over is what I'm saying.

Anonymous No.12013219 [Report]
>>12013210
Gold was a protagonist of the hit video game series, Pokemon, particularly Pokemon Gold/Silver.
He is unreal because by the nature of being a fictional video game character, he is not real.

You’re all going to hate me for saying this, but I’m so glad my first experience with Blood was in VR. I wanted to play this game my whole life but never had the means to, then was finally able to on a Quest 2 and it was perfection

If I was rich I would try to find and hire a bunch of talented game dev guys who were around from 1995 to 2005 to make some kind of amazing retro looking game that has some of the magic you see here. I wouldn’t even care if it made a profit frankly. Just something that could be appreciated for decades to come.
Anonymous No.12014615 [Report] >>12014763
>>12014586
It is easier than ever to just make your own game, so you could always just try to learn stuff and then noodle away at your own thing. It could be a small but nice project.
Anonymous No.12014763 [Report] >>12014791
>>12014615
yeah I know but there is a surplus of indie devs making shitty early 3d games that have some of the visual appeal but don’t have the soul of older games.

I wonder what sort of genres would be best for this. there is just a magic to the old graphics from 1995-2005 I appreciate a lot. I think that’s part of the appeal of older videogames frankly— because they looked good enough to be impressive but not realistic enough to seem like “real life” so you get like you were exploring a different world. That’s my theory anyway. That was obviously lost around the 360 ps3 gen.
Anonymous No.12014791 [Report]
>>12014763
There isn't really any one genre, just 3D games from 1990-2000.
It's the result of being limited by the hardware constraints of the time and using creativity to work within them.

That just looks comical. The top being a water-looking flat texture, then the "waterfall" being laughably pixelated and moving much faster, then the past below which is flat again yet still pixelated and moving fast.

That one is from a screensaver/background pack from back in the 90s, it was all these fanciful landscapes which were animated purely through color cycling. Some of them even had day and night cycling, which could be synced to your computer's clock and all.

I believe these are all from that set:
