if you're playing with KeeperFX then that makes the enemy keepers smarter

It is legitimately hard as hell to beat the game without transferring level 10 creatures. Unfortunately doing so also makes the game way too easy kek.

There are several missions where you can't do that, not directly anyway. You could try to cheese a creature from a secret level, but a few of them are almost unwinnable.

>secret level
Yeah, that’s what I implied. Having a level 10 Dark Mistress at the start pretty much guarantees you will wipe the floor with the enemy Keeper. A couple of months ago I tried to beat the last level legitimately before giving up. I think the key to winning might be beating them at scavenging vampires/dragons, but honestly for as much as I love this game I never explored the more complex mechanics thoroughly enough to know exactly how they work.

I’ve also heard bumrushing with a party of level 10 orcs can usually shit on almost everything, but gettin them out fast enough seems to be a bit tricky.

You could try lowering the game speed. The KeeperFX folks have managed to unlock tick rate from FPS, so you can decrease speed without ending up with a slideshow. IIRC the early design docs specified a 'standard' tick rate of 12.

Had a blast playing through this last year, still holds up
Only a few levels beat my ass, like the last level, think I got lucky on that, with the ai getting stuck at the last second

+1 for LLMs OP. Had some devs who passworded their archives and it helped me crack it in matter of days.

I don't think KeeperFX makes them actually smarter, merely aware of the various creature abilities and spells. Computers not fully employing game mechanics tends to be a thing in many strategy games.

the difficulty is all over the place, first 7-8 missions are a breeze but then you get to Tickle which kicks your ass

You need to cheese the shit out of the map, by walling off the other keeper from the gem patches.
Or do a long-term cheese, by training a mistress to lv 10 in Wishvale, transferring her, and rushing the other keeper before he can build up his forces.

Is this possible in the last level? One of these days I’ve gotta go back and try to beat that shit.

Dunno, never got that far.
