Which and the one most gameplay dense
Anonymous No.12009060 >>12010562
the fuck does that even mean?

part of the gameplay of MGS is stipping constantly to see what new information your codec team has to say, and if you play it differently then you're wrong

cant be 3 cuz no VR missions
probably 2, but i like 1s VR missions the best, even tho 2 is nicer to play

original release of 2 has no VR missions whatsoever
the point was that the Tanker mission was Raiden in VR (and retroactively so was MGS1)

>kojimbo had a stupid idea
yea i bet
hes had a few

at any rate opie posted the MGS collection so im assuming hes got all the VR missions. that means 2 is probably the most bang for your buck.
3 mechanically couldve been awesome if they DID give us some more VR missions idc that its the 60s in-game, just fucking make some shit up lol. whens believability ever been something MGS takes into consideration? but they didnt so 2 or 1

1s VR missions are literally the best part of the game, so youre just wrong
2 just has more extra shit you can do after you play the game. so its the most dense. 3 has nothing tho in that collection you could play MG1 + 2 which is nice i love MG2. you can play the game, and then you can play the game again at a higher difficulty. but you can do that on all of em
so its 2 > 1 > 3 for gameplay density
Anonymous No.12009112

you could argue 3 is the most dense because of how many snakes you can eat and collecting the frogs n shit. and because it’s the longest. this whole thread is trash. vr missions are lame.

You could always just say the VR missions were created later in the timeline, based on the events of MGS3. If you have to explain it at all, MGS3 also had the Ape Escape missions so it probably don't matter.

no one cares about VReddit missions so it's gotta be 3
1 is barebones and 2 is glorified movie game

The vr mission in the Xbox version of mgs2 were a huge hit with me and my friends. We would just take turns around a TV trying to out do eachother and we would all laugh when the person playing failed usually by doing something absurdly risky. It was one of those Friday night games. As much as I loved the campaign of mgs2 it’s the VR mission stuff which is my most vivid memory. It’s sort of like how the same friend group was really into resident evil 4. We would take turns playing mercenaries mode and it’s the same situation where we would watch eachother and learn and try to improve and out do one another. So mercenaries mode is my most vivid memory of re4 despite having best the campaign multiple times.

I can’t believe how much ESL shitposting there is on this board lmao. I guess it’s been a while since I’ve browsed /vr/ frequently enough to notice.

It makes sense once you realize that many third worlders were still playing copied ps1 games in 2007, which basically means they have been "retro" gaming their entire lives. Brazilians are the most obnoxious about it usually and start thinking their warped experience gives them some kind of relevance so they screech twice as loud.
Anonymous No.12010005
I'm still mad they don't let you use the sword in 2 new game plus or in 3.

And cartridge games in the early 2000's, but you would have to be a third worlder yourself to know that.

While playing 3 I was waiting for the reveal that the game was just a VR simulation being played through by Solid Snake or Raiden. I thought the Campbell time paradox admonishments were a hint of that.

every game is a simulation.
not trying to be clever here, it's just a brutally simple answer to your question: "is this game also a VR simulation???"

mgs2's gameplay is so far ahead of the others that i cannot believe mgs3 released after it

Elaborate on this. 2 is my favourite overall but I think 3 has better gameplay.

well the biggest misstep for me was the lower frame rate. im not even a graphics whore but going from 2 to 3 was immediately jarring and just totally cheapened the feel of the game. mgs2 being such an early ps2 game and being so smooth was incredible. then 3 years later and they release something considerably worse. obviously the tradeoff was the big outdoor areas but these added nothing for me. i thought 2 had better boss fights overall. i liked how the game felt like one big operation (after the tanker obviously). mgs3 just felt like more of a clusterfuck i guess.

MGS3 basically shifted its gameplay design in an entirely new direction. Before that levels were tight and small, even in bigger areas like Heliport, the placement of the guards is still setup in a way where you're always near something to hide, something you can quickly go behind, or just run straight past the guard. This makes the stealth of 1 and 2 pretty snappy, you're generally not staying still all that often.

3 changed this to more open areas, and suddenly the most optimal way of playing became crawling, it became circling around guards as opposed to close quarters stealth. This type of design is one that only got better and better with each entry after 3, 4 did it better while still sort of having that same central issue of crawling being too optimal. 5 was kind of the first game where they finally perfected this big scale stealth. This puts 1 and 2 in their own category, because none of the games after that have done their stealth better, because it just dropped that style of gameplay. Whereas 3 just feels way more awkward to play than 4 or 5 does.

MGS2 makes you stay 'on beat' to play through the levels optimally. There are times where I'm counting one second here, stop, two seconds there, stop, etc to get by guards patrol undetected because everything comes down to inches and seconds.
